Getting Back in the Swing of Things
Eighteen year old Leo woke up to the smell of eggs. He got out of bed and made his way downstairs.
When he got downstairs, he saw Donny and Raph sitting at the dining room table. Just then, Mikey and 10 year old Chloe Calls entered with a large bowl of scrambled eggs which was put on the table.
"Leo, looking forward to running the training sessions on your own?" Raph asked.
"As ready as I can be," Leo replied.
"We should eat first," Mikey said.
"We'll need the energy for practice," Donny said.
"Let's eat, then," Chloe suggested.
Chloe and the turtles sat down and chatted while they ate. They cleaned up when they were done.
Chloe was in her room doing schoolwork and the turtles headed for the dojo. Before entering the dojo, Donny requested to talk to Leo alone and Mikey and Raph agreed, entered the dojo, and closed the door.
"Everything all right?" Leo asked with concern.
"Actually, I was wondering if you were all right," Donny replied.
"I'm a little nervous about running the training session on my own."
"What would Splinter have said if he was still here?"
"He would have me clear my thoughts."
"Maybe you should try that during training."
"Good thinking."
"We all miss Splinter but even I know that we have to start training sessions again sometime."
"Deep down I know you're right."
"Glad to help."
Donny and Leo wrapped their arms around each other and squeezed tightly. They released each other a couple minutes later and entered the dojo.
"We ready now?" Raph asked.
"We are," Leo replied. "Let's start with the basic katas for now."
The turtles went through the basic katas. They were good but the moves were a bit rusty.
"I guess we need more practice," Mikey said with a grin.
"How about meditation?" Donny suggested.
Leo nodded in agreement and the turtles joined hands. They closed their eyes, focused, and the image of Splinter appeared.
"I am pleased that you have resumed your ninja training and that the Calls have given all of you a nice place to live," the image of Splinter said. "Remember to look out for each other and that I love all of you."
The image of Splinter vanished and the turtles opened their eyes feeling focused and alert. They resumed practice, did the basic katas, weapons practice, sparring, and Leo ended the session half an hour later.
"Good job, Leo," Raph said.
"You make a great sensei," Mikey said.
"Just so you know, I'm not trying to replace Splinter," Leo told his brothers.
"I never thought that for a second," Donny said and Mikey and Raph nodded.
The turtles exited the dojo and went about their own activities. It looked like things were finally starting to look up for the turtles.
The End
