Make Up
A Teen Titans Fic
Jinx loved make up.
She always had. She loved spending hours in her room trying new looks and asking the boys what they thought. Or she might surf the internet finding new brands or good shops to steal the latest volumizing mascara.
She didn't love it at times.
The stickiness, the clumps, the foundation never in her shade, the fake labels, the price and the breaking. She despised how people would take one look at her make up when she was hiding as a civilian and automatically think 'Girly chick who only thinks about make up, clothes and who her next boyfriend will be.' That wasn't Jinx. That was Kitten. She wore make up to 'highlight' her features or to make her feel better about herself.
Not Jinx.
She wore it as a mask. Most villains wore masks, no? So, why couldn't Jinx. Except hers wasn't plastic. It was non-chemical, organic (most of the time) beauty products. But it didn't hide her appearance exactly. It hid her emotions.
Emotions.
She couldn't show being upset by losing a fight. Hurt by the way Cyborg would attack her as if she was just another villain, not the girl who asked him to the school dance. She could only really show anger. Anger and hate. This was all she wanted…It seemed. But it was far from what she wanted.
But she finally got it.
Yes. The famous, charming, witty and (even if she wouldn't say) dashingly handsome Kid Flash had seen through the mask. She could see it. She could hear it. He saw past the hate. He saw the hurt, the pain, the happiness, the love. The sadness. The feeling showing that she would rather be anything than with the H.I.V.E.
He had asked.
And that is why with a bag on her shoulders she set down the road, eyes wide trying to see past the black blur of suits. Trying to see the red and yellow blur. Trying to see hope. The only hope which will see and accept what is behind the mask.
