— so this is an idea that has been floating around my head for a little while! This takes place after season 5 episode 9 where Olivia and Fitz have a fight in the residence and she leaves. I've decided to go a bit of a different route with the baby. Let me know what you think and if I should continue! Thank you all so much for giving me a place to share my ideas —-
4 months has passed since Olivia left Fitz in the residence after a fight. 4 months ago, she was living in the White House with him and being America's First Lady. 4 months ago, she decided to keep their baby but tell nobody.
Olivia Pope sits in her office at OPA, rubbing her now 4 month baby bump as she closes her case. The only people who know about her pregnancy and who's the father is her gladiators. She's been able to hide her pregnancy so far and keep out of the public eye but one day soon, large coats and purses will not block the growing baby bump.
She collects her purse, travel mug and coat from her office, "I'm heading home for the night. You all should head home too. You need rest." She says to her gladiators who are cleaning up from their closed case. Quinn turns around, smiling warmly at Olivia.
"We will but you need more rest then us." She says, looking at her baby bump that is showing in her pant suite. Every night since she's returned from the White House and found out she's pregnant, Huck accompanied her home and makes sure she is home safe before leaving.
"Ready, Liv?" Huck asks from the door, Olivia nodding, "Good work today. See you all tomorrow." She says proudly, her heels clicking against the hard wood and leaving with Huck.
Olivia lays in bed in the following hour, the news on as she eats popcorn. She hasn't spoke to anyone from the White House in 4 months - including Abby who she considered to be her best friend but the White House cannot know about the baby. Olivia wants to protect the baby and that includes protecting it from the White House and its father.
A photo of Fitz flashes on the screen, the news reporters talking about the President, "And that's enough." Olivia murmurs, turning off the tv and setting her bowl of popcorn on her nightstand. She fixes her pillows and lays back in bed, her hand resting on her bump. She has come to terms with being a single mother and plans to be the best mother she can even though she never thought she would be a mother.
"Goodnight." She whispers, rubbing her bump through her silk pajamas and sighing.
(Fitz's POV)
4 months of long sleepless night. Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night, reaching for Olivia and then realizing she isn't with him anymore. They had a huge fight one night after she didn't show up for a dinner and then she left. She felt trapped and he understood now. He had made her felt trapped and that is not who Olivia is. She is not the First Lady - an ideal. No, Olivia Pope is a woman of power, who fixes and changes and runs the world.
"Charlotte, can you send in Jake Ballard, please?" Fitz says on the phone as he sits in the oval late that night.
"Of course, sir." Charlotte says on the other side of the phone. Since Olivia left, Fitz has not been himself. He's hurting and missing the love of his life.
Fitz pours himself a glass of scotch, sitting on the couch and sighing. He's worried about Olivia and hasn't heard one word from her in 4 months. He hasn't even seen her on the news with her clients.
Half an hour later there is a knock on the oval door, "Sir, Captain Ballard is here to see you." Charlotte says. Fitz nods, indicating to let him in.
"Jake. Good to see you." Fitz says, standing and shaking hands with Jake. Handing him a glass of scotch and sitting down.
"Good to see you as well, sir." Jake says, sitting down on the couch across from him. Fitz sits back, "Have you seen Ms. Pope recently?" He asks bluntly, not about to start a fake conversation with Olivia's other man.
"Every now and then. I see her at dinners with her father but nothing more. Why?" Jake asks, sipping his scotch and looking at the leader of the free world who's weakness is Olivia Pope.
Fitz sighs, "I want to start surveillance again and I trust you. I want you on this plus you have an easy in with her. Her and I haven't spoke in 4 months and I'm worried about her. Just a few photos reported back once a week. Is that possible?" Fitz asks, knowing he's stepping over the line but he needs to know she's doing okay and nothing else. She isn't wearing doux bebe anymore and that was his symbol of hope.
Jake nods, "That's fine, sir. I can do that. Once a week?" He asks, finishing the rest of his scotch.
"Yes, Ballard. Thank you." Fitz says, standing and shaking his hand. Jake leaves with a simple nod and Fitz heads to the Residence for another sleepless night.
