Disclaimer: FNL doesn't belong to me.

Author's Note: My 50th fic, at a time when I simply too busy with college. I recently got into grad school. :) Anyways, this is a drabble of sorts. Spoilers for S1 only. It's spontaneous and makes no sense but I would appreciate comments nonetheless.

Deceiving

They laid side by side on the hammock in his backyard. To an outsider, they looked like another pair of teenage lovers just spending the night. She was twisting a strand of blonde hair around her index finger, while he was playing with a loose piece of thread on her t-shirt.

She had come to tell him the undeniable truth that would eventually drive them apart. Nothing else needed to be said because it all seemed so frivolous. For now, they let the physical act of being together fool them for just a little bit longer.

She turned to bury her face into his chest, inhaling his scent liked a connoisseur memorizing the notes of perfume. He wrapped his arm securely around her waist drawing her closer, liked a child holding onto a favourite stuff toy to shield away the pain.

The motion caused the hammock to swing rhythmically, but still they didn't speak.

A shower of light shot through the darken sky and together, they gasped. Hair forgotten, she pointed at the flitting star and cried out, "Quick! Matt. Make a wish."

He tried to catch the remnants of the ephemeral twilight, but to no avail. Instead he said, "Julie, people don't make wishes they know won't come true."
