I pull her closer to me, knowing I can do nothing to stop the oncoming pain. Her face contorts. She is no longer peaceful, her last slumber is now agony. I shake her lightly, I call her name, but she doesn't wake up. She turns in my arms, her head against my chest. She cries out. I kiss her tearstained face, I hum in her ear her lullaby. Her eyes open. Her time is done. Blood red eyes meet golden. My lips find hers. There are no rules to break. I have ended her life, but ours has only begun.
