Badge of Honour

Metatron's typing up the latest chapter of his book, chucking to himself about the Winchester brothers, when there's a knock on his office door. "Just a minute," he calls out, standing from his desk and fiddling with his sleeves. He realises what he has just said; goes over to the door and opens it to see Gadreel standing just outside.

"Sixty seconds have not yet come to pass."

"It's an expression. Now get in here," Metatron says. He grabs Gadreel by the arm and pulls him into the office—the swift motion causes Metatron's sleeve to ride up his arm.

"What is that?" Gadreel stares blatantly at the thing peeking out from under the fabric of Metatron's sweater sleeve.

"Nothing..." Gadreel doesn't say anything—he doesn't need to. "Fine," Metatron huffs, and rolls his sleeve up to the elbow. "It's a tattoo." At Gadreel's uncomprehending look, Metatron continues, "I did some research. Tattoos make you look like a, and I quote, 'bad ass'. They demand respect. You should be very afraid right now."

"It's a tattoo of a tree," Gadreel says, deadpan.

"I like trees," Metatron mutters defensively, rubbing at the temporary tattoo with the heel of his hand.

Gadreel raises an eyebrow.

"If you're going to say this has something to do with meeting the Winchesters tonight, you'd be very mistaken," Metatron informs; his voice slightly high-pitched. Before Gadreel can reply, he strides purposefully out of the office. He doesn't have to look back to know Gadreel is smirking.

THE END

Author's Note: One thing that I think would have made Season 9 even better would have been lots of comedic scenes in Metatron's office between him and Gadreel. That would have been great. Because one of my favourite little gags of the whole season is when Metatron asks Gadreel to come into his office in just a second and so he literally does.

This challenge is late and I'm sorry and I have an excuse—I didn't have any ideas for this word until I was lying in bed on Sunday night, and I've been too busy since then to write this until now. Oops.

Thanks for reading! :)
