Katie & Cook- Far Away
Part One
Cook got off the bus suddenly haunted by memories of the past he wanted to forget as he walked through the streets of Bristol, Cook knew exactly where he was heading and where he could lay low for a few days until he could get himself sorted. He felt the winter wind breeze through the air making his body tremble as he had no coat on him as he left his behind, Cook to see the familiar building ahead of him remembering coming here for shelter when his mum threw him out the first time he had pissed her off! Cook sighs before pressing the small red buzzer as a stern "hello" came through the intercom,
"Hi uh I am James Cook and uh I am homeless" Cook says his stomach knotting praying they wouldn't turn him away as suddenly he heard a buzzing noise and the door opens making Cook enter the warmth instantly hitting him,
"Ah you look familiar!" A smiley older woman says warmly over at Cook making him nod slowly,
"I came here years ago..."
"Oh yes James right?"
"Certainly is darling. But I go by Cook!"
"Right Cook. Here fill out this form then I'll show you to your room"
"Ok...thanks I appreciate this" Cook sat into a chair and begins to fill out the form his thoughts suddenly thinking about Emma and whether she was found, that she could be at rest properly! Cook felt moisture in his eyes as he quickly wipes his eyes with the back of his hand as he shakes his head firmly knowing it would do him no good thinking about Emma! She was dead! Gone forever and there was nothing he could do about it!
Katie wiped her eyes and reapplied her make up looking sadly into the mirror knowing deep down that she had to leave! Katie exhales slowly before heading back into the massive bedroom and she grabs the suitcase off the four poster bed,
"Katie?" Her boyfriend enters the room frowning over at her making anger surge through her,
"Move! Move out my way!"
"Why?! What have I done?! Babe you can't leave me you need me without me your nothing!" Katie slaps him her body composed as she barges past him as she left the three story town house feeling strangely like a weight had been lifted as she got into a taxi that's when her heart sank,
"Where too love?" Katie could not go to her parents as her mother would only criticise her and try and meddle, Emily was in New York and her friends were all away in uni enjoying their new lives!
"The drop in centre please" Katie cringes saying it but she really had no other option! As the taxi drives away her head was whirling in panic in how she was going to get her life sorted out! She sighs feeling drained out of energy as she felt lost and alone.
Cook had finally got settled in as he sat on the edge of the small bed, it all looked exactly the same to him as he lay back his head feeling heavy with fatigue. Cook had not been able to sleep ever since Emma's death as he is haunted by her hanging from that tree lifeless! Cook shakes his head again and clutches his fists tightly knowing he needed to block it all out! He jumps as there's a knock on the door,
"Hello Cook love just to say that there is food ready in the dining hall my love!"
"Thanks I'll come down now" cook stands knowing that the only way to block it all out was too constantly keep his mind busy! Cook heads down the long grim looking corridor until he reached a huge dining area,
"What would you like love?"
"Just some chips will do thanks" he took the plate and sat himself at a corner table not making eye contact with no one as he silently began to eat his chips,
"Sorry to bother you my love but this young lady has just arrived maybe you could show her where everything is?" Cook looked over and felt his stomach lurch as he feels suddenly nauseous,
"Cook?!" Katie stands looking mortified as she looks close to tears as she faces the floor,
"Oh you know each other?!"
"Yeah. Uh listen I'll look after Katie now" cook states firmly as he watches her walk off leaving him stood with a silent Katie,
"Fuck sake. Katie you hungry?" Katie nods her head slowly looking quite lost making Cook fill with sympathy for her,
"Well sit your arse down girl and I'll get you some food kiddo!" Cook says as Katie does as she's told and sits timidly looking around at the setting she was in looking in disbelieve! Cook gets her a plate of chips as they both sit in silence munching on their food before Katie broke the silence,
"I was with him because I thought he was different...safe but he fucked me up worse then anyone else!" Cook frowns assuming she meant a boyfriend as he places his hand into hers making her smile sadly over at him,
"He was cheating on me. He thinks I'm stupid...maybe I am..."
"Katiekins your far from stupid!"
"Then why doesn't anyone take me seriously?!"
"I do. Your a top class bird I mean that Katie so if some dickhead doesn't realise how lucky he is to have you as his lady then that's his loss I reckon!" Katie smiles before frowning concerned over at Cook,
"What happened to you Cook? We all thought you were dead! Well the police they never gave up...but they couldn't find you!" Cook nods his head slowly,
"I'm sorry for scaring you all..."
"I know. Cook you've always looked out for us. Your loyal and that's why we all love you. So what made you come back?"
"Honestly had no where else to go...but I have missed all of you...how are the others?"
"Yes good. Just me that's a total mess right now! Cook you fancy getting a drink or something cause this place is really depressing!" Cook smirks feeling glad that Katie hadn't changed too much as he always liked her feisty attitude!
"Sure. Let's get out of here Katiekins " they make their way towards the entrance,
"Guys where you off to?"
"Just out for a few hours. Why?"
"Just that your meant to stay in the building" Cook and Katie sigh both needing to be here as they had no where else to go as they walked back along the corridors stopping outside Cook's room,
"Cook you mind me coming in? I just don't fancy being alone right now"
"That makes the two of us kiddo!" They both enter the small room and sit onto the small bed,
"What now?" Katie asks making Cook shrug slightly as they both burst out laughing,
"You have changed" Katie notes as Cook frowns slightly,
"Is that a bad thing?"
"No it's a good thing. I guess it is I don't know I just miss how things were...how we were!"
"Yeah. You have not changed much"
"You mean I'm still a bitch!"
"No. You were never a bitch Katie! So what you going to do next?"
"No idea. How about you? I'm guessing you won't want to be here long?"
"Not really. How about your parents?"
"I can't. My mum loves Dylan...thinks the sun shines out his arse! She would be disappointed in me!" Katie says sadly making Cook wrap an arm around her knowing he could not leave her behind! As she rests her head against his shoulder he felt her relax with relief,
"I promise you that I won't walk away from you again!" Katie lifts up her head frowning slightly,
"I left last time you guys in all the shit...I won't do that again Katie. So how about you come with me?!" Katie beams feeling overwhelmed as cook would of been the last person in her mind that would of been the one to put her first! She hugs him warmly feeling her heart race glad that she had found Cook!
"I'm guessing that's an yes!"
"Yes it is. Cook I'm so happy that you came home!" Katie lightly kisses his cheek before making her way down the corridor towards her room, feeling overwhelmed with so many different emotions pulsing through her as she enters her room she pulls out her mobile and grits her teeth in irritation. She had five missed calls from her mother meaning that more than likely she knew what had happened and wanting Katie to go back like nothing was wrong! Katie lay onto the bed yawning as she suddenly felt drained of energy as she turns her phone off and closes her eyes hoping that tomorrow she would be away from this hell!
