Harmony was laid in Serpine's lair, missing his company and his sly smiles. As he had said to do, she'd curled up on his bunk, but it wasn't enough. She felt as if she was lacking something, something that she'd become so accustomed to. And then it hit her. It was company that she was lacking, the company of another human being; she'd only experienced his for so long, and now even that was gone. Even though he was an enemy, he had at least been someone to talk to. Now he was gone.

As she lay there, she heard a sound from up above and sat up instantly. Delicate footsteps began resounding on the steps – someone was coming down into the room, and they weren't coming down slowly, either. She didn't have much time to move before the long legs of China Sorrows came into view, then her torso, and finally her head. Her piercing blue eyes surveyed the gloom until they met Harmony's, and the two looked at each other in silence for a moment before China smiled that devious smile of hers.

"Alone, Harmony?" China asked, leaning on the edge of the arch and folding her arms. "He actually went?"

"He did." Harmony's voice was weak, her knees beginning to murmur. The legendary effect of China Sorrows was once again hitting home.

"Oh, I'm sorry, am I doing it again?" China looked apologetic and Harmony felt the haze in her mind lift; her body was once again hers to master. "I don't even know I'm doing it, sometimes. It's simply terrible."

"Thanks." Harmony glanced at the bunk again, wondering if her previous position was imprinted, but before she could look back China had followed her gaze and was looking at the covers in wonder.

"Although he's an enemy, you still found something with him, didn't you?"

"A sense of company, nothing more. He's an enemy."

"You were too, once. Don't forget that."

"As were you. As was everyone in the resistance. It makes no difference about the past – the present is what defines us now." Harmony met China's gaze once more, but without realising it her eyes began to wander, taking in the curves and stature. Her glances were swift, but it made her feel uncomfortable. This was happening a lot recently and she hadn't yet figured out why.

"The present is indeed what defines us – and what are you doing in the present, Harmony? What are you doing right now? You're checking me out."

Harmony jolted and glared at China, but the look faded almost instantly. The feeling of infatuation began to slowly creep back in, and this time Harmony knew it wasn't an accident.

"Why you're doing that, I do wonder," China stood up straight, unfolding her arms and looking Harmony straight in the eyes. "But I'm not going to say I don't like it."

Harmony managed to raise her eyes once more, and this time she maintained the eye contact. Grey clashed with the palest blue and for a moment, both women thought they saw something unidentifiable in the other. Then the moment went away, and China began to step closer, smiling that little smile of hers again. Harmony didn't move, didn't speak. She couldn't even think. All she knew was that China Sorrows was getting closer, and closer, and so very close...
