Title: Night Flight
Author's Note: This story was inspired by the episode entitled, "I'm Looking Through You." Keep in mind that I haven't seen this episode for some time so everything may not be exactly right. This takes off immediately after Lois says her famous line....

The air was slightly cool against their skin as Lois and Clark gazed into each others eyes on the balcony. With a flash of a smile, Lois said, "It seems we have something in common. You want to fly like Superman, and I want to fly with him."
Clark grimaced slightly at her words. He knew, as most people in Metropolis knew, that Lois had a crush on the Man of Steel. But what of the man under the suit? The man who lived most of each day like any other ordinary man. No, she had told him before he was like a brother to her, nothing more.

He was shaken from his musings as Lois stepped closer and laid her head on his shoulder. Her warmth, her scent, and especially her close proximity to himself drove him crazy. Glancing to the sky to clear his head, he found no relief there.

Lois sighed with contentment as she clung to her partner and he found himself sighing along with her. On a sudden impulse, he wrapped his arm around her slender waist. This was the moment of truth. After all those long nights of practicing how he would tell her his secret, he found the perfect solution in just showing her. Pushing off the balcony gently, he allowed himself to float two feet from the floor.

Lois sighed again and he realized she hadn't yet noticed the fact that they were hovering in the air. He brought them higher till the houses below seemed a fourth their actual size and yet he dared not look down at the woman he held so closely.

"Clark, I..." Lois stopped midsentence as a small yelp of surprise escaped her slender throat.

He closed his eyes, waiting for her to reject him, to tear his heart out like no one else could. Even Kryptonite was less painful than what she was sure to put him through.

A gentle hand touched his face forcing his eyes open once again. She was staring at him, her hurt practically radiating into his soul.

"I'm so sorry Lois..." he began but stopped when she shook her head.

Hesitantly, she reached up and removed his glasses and pushed his hair back. "I never saw the resemblance, never thought...."

Then she shocked him by slipping her hand into his shirt. After a few seconds he realized she was feeling for his suit. Holding her with one arm, he unbuttoned the first few buttons to reveal the familiar red and blue uniform underneath.

"I wanted to tell you sooner," he began, unsure of his next words. "But I needed to know..."

"If I loved you for you," she finished for him. "I do love you, Clark. You are the most kind and caring man that I have ever met. But I was afraid to let you close. Afraid I would scare you away..."

Scare him away. No matter what she did, he would always love her. "You're not angry?" he asked, shocked.

"We'll talk about that later," she grinned. "Let's just enjoy this now."

Again, Lois laid her head on his shoulder and together they flew higher into the night sky.
