Doubling over, Korra places her hands on her knees and closes her eyes, drawing in a deep breath. Her fingers twitch and her blood sings in her veins as the adrenaline courses through them, making it impossible to stand still. So she digs her heels into the ground and rocks backwards and then forwards, her chest heaving all the while.
She's still trying to ease the stitch in her side when Mako skids to a halt in front of her. Though he's as equally breathless as she is, he doesn't double over, but leans against the wall, tilting his head back to stare up at the dark sky, almost like he can't quite believe they've just escaped.
(Truth be told, neither can she)
The moon casts a shadow over his face, throwing his features into sharp relief. His nose, which is annoyingly straight and just slightly upturned at the end that would be pompous on anyone else but him, looks particularly nice in this lighting as do his lips, which are parted, pulling in breath after breath.
She doesn't know why she does it. Maybe it's the pull of adrenaline in her veins or perhaps the world's been turned on its axis, but something tells her it's the way his tongue darts out of his mouth to wet his lips.
Maybe it's a combination of all three things or the fault of something beyond her understanding, but she doesn't know nor does she care, especially when his mouth is so warm, his lips so soft, and the taste of him is just that incredible.
Even more incredible than she had imagined.
Which she had.
A lot.
His initial reaction is shock, and she can feel it in the tension in his jaw, the way his hands hover over her shoulders as if to push her away. But once her hands drift away from his face and slide into his hair, he relaxes, all but turning to putty in her hands. His hands settle somewhere near her waist, perhaps higher or maybe a little lower. She can't tell because her head is spinning, she's more than a little breathless, and Mako's mouth is far more interesting.
Later on she'll blame it on the circumstances and he'll brush it off like it was nothing, but sooner or later they're going to be put in a similar situation, and neither can quite help hoping for the same outcome.
We don't even have an official air date and I'm already shipping it like burning. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it!
