Author's Notes: A short fic written as a conversation between Will and Marian after 1.13 for my good friend Illegally Anonymous who adores this pairing just as much as I do. It had been on but was taken down due to a clean-up of submissions on there so I decided to post it here before she has a heart-attack and tries to kill me. Again... And yes, I used a poem by Robert Frost. YAY for Robert Frost! And remember – Reviews are a fanfic author's food... Feed me!
The Woods are Lovely
He stood in the darkness, silently watching the darkening sky through the tree branches, pain etched on his face.
Suddenly, a twig snapped and he tensed, hand going to his side, feeling for his axe, only to come away empty. He silently cursed himself as another twig snapped and leaves crunched softly under small feet.
Small feet?
Hands were placed gently on his shoulders, a soft voice whispering into his ear. "You are alone, why?"
Silent for a moment, he turned his head in her direction, watching as her eyes lit up and her mouth twitched slightly.
"I thought I lost you..." He whispered softly, a small smile spreading across his face.
The darkness contrasted his pale skin, giving him an almost ethereal glow. Marian smiled broadly, wrapping her arms around his thin torso and resting her chin on his shoulder. "You will never lose me, Will Scarlett. That is a promise."
Turning around in her grasp, he looked at her, green eyes alight. Brown curls framed her heart-shaped face and long eyelashes batted at him in the dark. He looked up, glad that the darkness veiled the color that ran to his cheeks. Suddenly he stopped, looking at Marian and her arms unfurled from his waist, a hand entwined in one of his own.
"The sun has already set in the east..." He commented lightly, frowning.
"But the moon does not rise," she whispered, looking up at the dark sky.
Will tapped his chin thoughtfully, "Maybe it is afraid to show its face."
"Or maybe this day is not yes done," Marian whispered, extricating her hand from his and smiling when Will placed an arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer, the warmth of his slender body comforting her.
He scoffed lightly, looking at her with tender eyes. "God knows it should be, so much happened today..."
"And yet almost nothing at all," she murmured, nestling into the crook of his arm and pulling his cloak around her. "Almost nothing at all..."
He looked away, his eyes glazed over.
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep..."
"But you know I have promises to keep.
And miles to go before I sleep."
"And miles to go before I sleep..." He chorused, smiling softly. "You will join us one day, my lady?"
"Of course, love." And suddenly, she reached upwards, placing a hand on his cheek and turning his face towards hers as she gently pressed her lips to his.
And slowly, steadily, the moon began to rise above the trees, casting an eerie glow on the couple, nestled together in peace undimmed, unaware of the bright eyes that watched them in the dark and the arrow pointing at them through the leaves.
