Tsunade looked over the village of Konoha. It couldn't exactly be called peaceful. A ninja village could never really be peaceful; hoping for that was ridiculous. It was beautiful though, even with the reconstruction going on.
She realized that it was only beautiful now because she loved it. Pein had wrecked the place, and raw earth still surrounded the village where trees and houses had stood such a short time before. She could see the building sites as far as she felt like looking. They would have looked like a blight of raw lumber and concrete, but they were lovely reminders that her village was healing.
The wind switched directions, pulling her bangs around and swishing at her clothes. It had been an odd day, with a monsoon unlike anything Konoha had ever seen. Anko had told her that her pet snake was acting like there was going to be an earthquake.
I hope not, Tsunade thought. We're so weak right now. The ninjas could fight off another invasion, thanks to Pein bringing them back to life, but I don't know if the civilian population could rebuild again.
There were still so many things that could go wrong. Sasuke was still out there, as well as the traditional enemies of Konoha. She was grateful the Konoha had made allies lately, but she knew that ninja allegiances were tenacious at best. Most of them were due to Naruto's unusual diplomatic skills.
She smiled as she thought of her almost-grandson. The little brat had a way with people, just because he wasn't trying to get anything out of them. He just wanted everyone to have peace within themselves. Who could turn that down? He'd gone from being the pariah of the village to being one of its valued treasures.
She felt a rumble go through the ground, but it wasn't much. Living this close to Mount Eter they had grown used to the occasional earthquake. It wasn't enough to cause Anko's snake to act oddly though. The animals around Konoha didn't even notice an earthquake that wasn't strong enough to damage homes.
A strong breeze from the sea carried a foul stench toward Konoha. The ground shook and the Hokage tower began to sway.
This is it, Tsuande thought as she fled the tower. She could only hope there wouldn't be too much damage to her poor, wounded village. She saw villagers running out into the streets.
Kakashi and Jiraiya were at the adult bookstore. Jiraiya had just finished a book signing, and they were chatting lazily.
"What the hell was that?" Kakashi asked.
Jiraiya didn't answer. Instead he watched the seagulls flocking inland. There was something wrong about the way they flew.
"Those birds are panicked," he said.
The ground shook again. A great green creature lifted itself out of the ocean, its scaly head dripping torrents onto the beach. A great blast of ice came from its mouth and then an animal scream laced with a metallic sound.
Jiraiya had traveled more than anyone else in the village. With a voice full of despair he said the name of the only being feared more than the Kyuubi.
"Godzilla."
