Don't Fear

The Fix aftermath – Starsky's POV

Hutch is hurting. Again. And there isn't a damn thing I can do about it! So I take a deep breath and try to relax. For Hutch. He needs me.

He had another nightmare. His hair is plastered to his forehead. His eyes are looking at me, bewildered, confused, and scared. This has been going on for two weeks now, and I'm wondering how long these nightmares are going to last? How long will Ben Forrest continue to haunt him?

Hutch is trembling. So I do what I've done every night. I crawl in bed with him and hold him until the trembling stops and he relaxes in my arms.

Holding him like this brings back memories for me. Memories of another time I held him in my arms, tremors wracking his bruised body. His eyes stare into mine; longing for that one thing that he knew could make him feel better. He's begging me to help him, and help him I did. It wasn't the kind of help Hutch wanted, but it was the only kind of help I was willing to give. For me there were no other options.

Hutch has fallen asleep again, but I keep my arms around him. With Hutch safely protected in my arms I can make sure demons like Ben Forrest stay far away from him.

Don't fear, Starsky's here.

Sleep Hutch. I'll keep you safe. I promise
