The characters are probably super OOC, but the plot bunnies abducted me last night at one am, and refused to let me go until I wrote this, no matter how badly it comes out. I don't own anything. This is my first CA story, so PLEASE read and review!

Danielle Brooks was a strong woman. Maybe not as strong as her sister Annie, but still. She didn't cry easily. She lost it though, when August Anderson showed up at her house late on a Tuesday night. Annie should have been home hours ago. Chloe and Katia had bothered her, asking why their aunt wasn't there to tell them a bedtime story. They had finally gone to sleep after Danielle promised to send Annie in as soon as she got home.

So when Auggie showed up, Danielle cracked. She knew something must be wrong. It was almost midnight. Any guy as hot as Auggie should have been at home, with some pretty girl next to him. The only reason he would be here would be if something happened to Annie. She was supposed to have gotten home from her acquisitions trip yesterday, and she hadn't called. That wasn't like her at all.

She still brought him into the living room, sat him down in a large armchair, asked if he wanted anything, but her eyes were full of tears, just waiting to spill over. Then he opened his mouth, and his words sent her off sobbing.

"Danielle, I'm really sorry, but Annie isn't coming home. She wasn't in Detroit. She was in Brazil. And she didn't exactly work for the Smithsonian. See, Annie was in the CIA. It finally got her killed."

Through her tears, Danielle managed to ask "Why are you telling me this? Isn't it against the rules? Shouldn't you have told me she died in a car wreck or something?"

Auggie had been afraid she would ask this, and he would have to explain. "Yes." he said finally. "Yes, I should have told you it was an accident. And yes, I'll probably get in trouble if anyone finds out. But I loved Annie. She was my best friend, and she changed me. Before Annie, I was grouchy and mean. I made some interns cry, for god's sake! I moved from one girl to another as quickly as I could learn their names. After Annie showed up, people said I was nicer, to a certain degree anyway." He smiled wryly, thinking of how she had commented on his sarcastic looks. "I stopped sleeping with anyone, because they just reminded me that I could never have her. And now she's gone. I just thought you deserved to know, because she really loved her family, and would have wanted you to know."

Danielle was left speechless at the degree of emotion the usually calm man was showing. She finally managed to get out "Thank you so much. It means a lot. And I'm sorry you never got to tell her. Now, if you would please go, I'm sorry, but I need to go talk to Chloe and Katia." she said sadly. She had no idea how she would explain things to the girls.

But then he spoke again. "Actually, would you mind if I talked to them. I can't tell them what actually happened, but I want them to hear it from me. Please?"

And thats when Danielle realized how much he really cared about her family. "Hey Auggie? I know it's a bad time, but do you want to come to dinner on Thursday?"

Wow. That didn't end like I expected it to. Oh well. PLEASE review, they are like the bane of my existence! (ok, not really)
