"You should join", Emmeline said to the pregnant woman across the table. She then sipped her liqueur.
"I know, but…" Andromeda stroked her big belly.
"War."
Andromeda looked down. "Yes."
Emmeline stretched her back. Tousled her short, black hair. "When will Ted be home?"
"I don't know."
A clock ticked awkwardly.
"Do you mind if I…?" Emmeline grabbed the bottle.
"Take, take."
Outside, evening had come. Dashing dark-looking clouds, slim moon. Ominous winds.
"I'm lonely", Andromeda said, looking at nothing and everything.
Emmeline both wanted to hug her tight and snort. "I wouldn't have made you less lonely…"
