Title: Fall Back

Pairing: Dean/Bela

Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural

It used to be so easy: get in, sleep with Bela, get out.

Now, it's…not. They start to stall, to linger. To say things that they wouldn't have said, to miss, to care…

He doesn't like this sinking feeling. This longing, this aching. He doesn't like the look in her eyes when he finally turns to leave, the drop of her head, the bitterness in her voice.

"It's nothing," she used to say. Nothing. He wants so badly to believe it now.

He knows that there's more to this than they realize. More than the trysts, the stolen kisses, the hidden glances. More than their secrets, more than fate.

More than the excuses they fall back on every time they stop themselves from getting in too deep.

They both know that it's never going to work, that they should walk away, and yet, they keep coming back. It's getting confusing, tiring, draining: always treading on unstable ground—a bleak liaison muddled with uncertainty and doubt.

There is no name for what they are, and he just doesn't know where they stand.
