Melting Masks
I really thought I knew the both of them.
I knew nothing at all.
It wasn't from lack of attention: I'd seen,
I'd watched it all
But watching the world end might have been
less of a surprise:
Maybe I could have kept my shattered heart from breaking
if I'd known that sweet little girl from the forests
had stolen my love's heart away.
Maybe I was the one who was the fool,
not knowing true love, nor lie
but when she'd kissed me with her melting face
I'd really thought – but no:
that melting face was just that ditto of hers
And when I saw them: Green, and Yellow
lips locked, faces with masks long torn aside
sharing something
that I could never have
I knew then
I knew
Nothing
at all.
