I shut the door and lean against it. It's an amazing feeling to be able to say goodbye and be certain I would see him again. Finally, after months of uncertainty, I knew, beyond the shadow of a doubt, Peeta and I were meant to be together. For months I had held my feelings at bay. First because I wasn't sure whether he was the enemy, then because I was afraid I would lose him. It's just now, that the fighting has died down. Just today that we were both together after the war. Just now as I've finally been able to let go of Prim, and the past. Just now as we said goodbye, that I was certain I had made the right choice.

That night I lay in bed unable to sleep, looking out the window at the stars and finally I couldn't take it anymore. I shrugged on a jacket over my nightgown and slid on a pair of slippers and walked to across the way to his house. I knocked timidly at his door. There was no answer. I knocked again, then decided that he was probably sleeping. As I turned to walk away I heard the door open and paused.

"Katniss?" I turned and saw him standing in the moonlight, tall and strong. A boy unmarked by the Capitol. He was so beautiful that I just stood there and stared. My vision blurred as my eyes filled with tears. He rushed forward with tears of his own wrapped me in his arms. Right there in the moonlight we cried together. He took my hand and led me into the house, up to the roof. He began lighting candles, we lay on the roof for hours, doing nothing, saying nothing, just glad of the other's nearness, surrounded by a warm glow. He woke me as the sun began to rise, I vaguely remember falling asleep in his arms last night.

"Do you remember that sunset we saw in the Capitol?" he asked me.

"Mmmhmmm." I said sleepily.

"Do you remember that whole day?" He asked, beginning to play with my hair.

"I do."

"Do you remember what I said? " I shook my head, "I said I wish we could stay like this forever. Do you remember what your response was?"

I smiled, "I'll allow it."

"Katniss." he said breathily. "Katniss, love, marry me."

"Yes," I said simply, and saw him smile as I slowly closed my eyes.

I stood in the doorway in simple clean clothes. Waiting. It was only me and Haymitch and few others, but the most important person was still not here. I heard a noise beyond the door and looked up. There she was, my love. In a simple white dress. Standing in the doorway, the sun at her back, she walked towards me and smiled attentively. We joined hands and walked towards the small hearth fire. We sat down and she leaned her head on my shoulder. As we toasted the bread I knew that for better or for worse, I would always be here for her. I would continue to protect her, continue to watch over her, continue to love her. Just as I had in the past, as I do now, and as I will forever. Always.
