Summary: John sings his new baby girl to sleep
Disclaimer: Don't sue, Stargate Atlantis isn't mine, This song isn't mine
Teyla and John were quietly lying in bed. Teyla had just come home from the infirmary that day. Though she was tired, she wanted to spend time with John, since she knew she wasn't going to be able to for a while to come. Teyla had to report to the infirmary for an "after birth" check up as Carson called it. She a continued weakened immune system for some reason, although she had given birth over 2 weeks earlier. Carson had let her return to her room, but off active duty till further notice.
"Teyla, aren't you tired?" John asked his wife
"No'' she lied, soon after yawning, giving away her fib. John smiled
"I think you are, and I think you need to get rest before the baby wakes up". Teyla shook her head
"I want to spend quality time with you. There is so much going on here on Atlantis, there isn't much time to be alone, we must take advantage of it" Teyla said, her speech slurred from fatigue
"And you are tired, and your body is weak and u need to rest." John replied
"I…" Teyla was cut off by the sound of the baby crying. She sighed and moved to leave the bed. John grabbed her arm and gentle lay her back down on the bed.
"I've got her, " he said. He kissed Teyla on the forehead gently. "Rest". Teyla nodded and turned in the bed.
John walked into the joining room and saw his little girl fussing in the crib.
"Hey sweetie, how's my little girl doing?" John lifted his little girl out of her crib. He gently held onto her and she cried.
"What's wrong sweet, hmm? Your mommy already fed you, your not dirty, you were burped…" he said to himself as he rocked the baby. "You just didn't wanna be alone huh? Well don't worry baby, daddy will stay with you" He gently swayed the baby till she hushed a bit. Then he decided to sit in the rocking chair.
"How about a song as I rock you to sleep? Would you like that Riley?" Riley quieted down as she started to hear her father's singing.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray.
Teyla heard John's gentle singing from the other room and decided to listen in. She walked in and stood at the corner and watched him get up and dance around the room with their baby. She smiled softly
You'll never know dear how much I love you; please don't take my sunshine away.
The
other night, dear, while I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my
arms. .
Teyla gently swayed to the song as she listen to her husband's soothing voice. Riley had completely stopped crying and simply stared at her father. John looked deep into her hazel eyes and smile at her, singing more of the song
I'll
sing my sunshine song, I'll sing it all day long.
When I am happy,
when I am sad,
I will sing to you that I love you,
Just knowing
you makes me feel glad.
By the time John was through with the song, Riley was fast asleep; Teyla was at the room entrance, brightly smiling. John put little Riley down in the crib and walked over to Teyla, gently kissing her and walking back to their bed. Once settled into bed, he wrapped his arms around her and listened to her breathing begin to even out. Right before he himself slipped into slumber, he uttered his favorite lines of the song "You are my sunshine and you'll never know, dear, how much I love you"
