Author's note: Hello guys, this is Carnett. The other owner of this account who was supposedly done with writing fanfictions. But here I am. What can you say but the mind can change, can't it? In any case, this is my first story. It is basically going to be a drabble series and the prologue might seem vague but please bear with me. Constructive criticism and reviews are appreciated.
Prologue: The Camp
It was a hot summer day. The sun was blistering like an inferno. An old Chevy truck was moving on a deserted, dusty road. The driver of this truck was a man in his mid-thirties. His expression was grim and he occasionally sighed – well, actually a lot. He was taking his two kids to a sports camp as the summer vacations were drawing close. He looked from his rear-view mirror at his beloved kids. One sat with a sullen look while the other wore a disposition of cheery enthusiasm. He sighed again as he knew he'd have to pay for this.
"Come on! Cheer up, princess," he said to his daughter.
"I am not talking to you," the girl replied, idly playing with her auburn locks.
"Listen, sweetheart. This camp is not that bad. There will be many kids of your age and plus there is a lake." His attempts went in vain, however.
"For heaven's sake, Dad! It's a stupid tennis camp," she cried.
"You will have fun. Look at your brother; how happy he is."
"Of course he is happy, at my expense."
The boy spoke up for the first time. "Don't bring this on me."
The girl rolled her eyes. "This is the perfect ending to the vacations. Going to a stupid camp on this stupid truck."
"Hey! This truck is vintage," her father retorted.
"Yeah, right," she drawled sarcastically.
She looked outside of the window, listlessly observing the scenery as it passed by.
Nothing interesting could happen in this camp, she thought and soon fell asleep.
"Saaya! Saaya! Get up. Look, we reached the camp. Come on, get up."
Hayashi Saaya, eleven years old, looked at the person who was so desperately trying to wake her up. She yawned and stretched herself, then looked at her brother.
"What are you so excited about, Oni-san?"
Hayashi Shin'chi, thirteen years old, gave her a solemn look. He turned to his father, who was busy unloading their luggage from the 'vintage' truck.
"Can you please explain as to why do I have to bear her for ten days?"
"Excuse me?" Saaya seethed, "as a matter of fact, it is the other way round."
"Now, now, calm down," Mr. Hayashi spoke indifferently, having seen such situations way too many times.
Saaya jumped out of the truck, ready to explore her surroundings. The camp was huge and quite beautiful. The cherry blossom trees were aligned on the pathways, with a gazebo at the other end. The path led to the administration building which stood in the center, with a fountain in the courtyard. The residence area was located right behind it. The other side of the portico had clearings for many outdoor sports and there was a tarn at very end of camp, where one could go for activities like fishing, boating, and kayaking.
Hmm, not bad at all, she thought. Perhaps it might turn out to be worthwhile after all.
Saaya and Shin'chi waved their father good-bye and started walking towards the registration office. They stood in the queue, waiting for their turn to come.
Someone's bag hit Saaya on her back. She turned back, about to retort 'Don't you have eyes?'
"You should be more careful."
Saaya was taken aback. Surprised, she glanced at the person before her. The person in question was a boy, tall with golden, wispy hair and wearing glasses. He seemed to be about the same age as her, with a tennis bag hanging on his shoulder.
"Excuse me?" she snapped. Look at his nerve, she couldn't help thinking.
"Will you please move forward?"
She just glared at him and started moving forward. Arrogant, cocky, imbecile…
