Sweet Sixteen
By: ChoCedric
It is Cho's sixteenth birthday, and as her friends gather together and try to make her happy, it only makes her more miserable. Music booms out of the stereo, and as they all dance, Cho knows she's forever missing a dancing partner. She remembers when Cedric used to look into her eyes with love, and she mirrored the look. She recalls how he ever so gently rubbed her fingers, and made her feel warm and wanted. And she'll never feel that way again. She's been getting endless taunts from her father about how love always ends in heartbreak, and she wishes he'd just shut up. Every time she smells Cologne, she swears it's Cedric, but when she looks over her shoulder, he's not there, and he never will be again. Everyone says this is supposed to be an extremely happy birthday, that sweet sixteen is a big step, but she couldn't care less. She's spending it without her boyfriend, the love of her life. She wonders what the state of his body is now – whether worms and maggots are infesting it yet. The images make her feel sick. The warm, muscular arms that used to protectively wrap around her are decaying, and she has to run to the bathroom before she spews her breakfast all over the floor. As she collapses near the toilet, she knows that this is the worst birthday she's ever had. Her Cedric is not there to share it with her; he's instead six feet under the ground. And she'll never, ever get over it for as long as she lives.
