Desire

She could feel him. She could always feel him. He was there in the back of her mind every second of every day, a strength that echoed throughout her heart and rooted in her soul. And it came from him. It always came from him. Every ounce of her courage, bravery and strength came from him. She often wondered what he got from her, but never dared ask. He felt wit his whole heart and for some reason he loved her. Another thing she could feel, like warmth of a hearth fire blazing, waiting just for her. She longed for the day when she could be with him always but each day it felt farther and farther away. They had their love, but at this point that was all. They didn't even have a physical relationship and if she was going to be honest with herself, which she was, it had been a long time and no one struck her fancy the way he did. She hoped he would stop by that evening. She loved seeing him there, tapping on the glass of her balcony door. Se was always amazed that he had braved the scaling of that wall just to see her.

A few minutes later the expected tapping came. There he was before her in all his glory. Her mood, which had been drifting on the edges of melancholy and then desire, suddenly sky rocketed into bright joy as she opened the door to let him in.

"Vincent…" She breathed.

"Catherine." He answered, equally soft. She leaned against his chest for a moment, listening to the sound of his heartbeat and the rumbling purr he made when he was content.

"Are you well tonight?" He asked after a small amount of time had passed. She could hear his voice through his chest, to which she currently had her ear pressed.

"Yes, I'm fine." She whispered. The 'now' left off from her comment, hanging unspoken in the air around them.

"What bothered you earlier? Your emotions were…erratic, to say the least."

"I was thinking about us." She stated as it that answered everything.

"You are upset with me. You desire me to leave and not return so that you can live your life, with someone from your own world." She just stared at him as if he were crazy.

"Well that's the totally wrong way to read my emotions." She said finally. He really needed to get over his inferiority complex.

"Then tell me please." He had moved away from her embrace and would not look at her.

"I am upset because I love you and want to be with you all the time. I don't want anyone else because you are perfect for me. I desire you." He looked up at her sharply then, gauging her sincerity. "Yes, I do, not just as friends or emotional comfort, but as a lover. I find you attractive. I'm never happy, truly happy, unless I'm with you." Vincent seemed shocked and unsure how to respond. He opened his mouth to speak but stopped when Catherine pressed her fingers to his lips. "If you're going to tell me it isn't possible, stop now, because I don't care."

"I was going to say that I love you too, but I don't know how to give you what you're asking for and I would like to give you everything you want and more."

"Then stay with me tonight and we'll find a way." She said before pressing her lips to his in their first real kiss.
