If the Last One Survives…

Tag brushed his bat wings carefully as he watched his enemy. Her black, crow wings were pushed back with the force of the wind. Her name was Alexandria. Tag glared, she had always beaten him in some way or another even if it wasn't a contest. Trying to get his mind off of Alexandria Tag's hazel eyes wondered toward one of his best friends. Her name was Beth and her white heron wings always brought light to the gloomiest of days. It was coming close that Tag, Beth and Alexandria possibly could die within the month. Beth flew about a foot above the ground over toward Tag. "Hey Tag! Did you hear?" Tag laughed, "With my bat ears how could I not have?" He paused, "Okay, I don't know. Tell me, tell me!" His voice sounded like he was a child again. Beth smiled and she took a deep breath, drawing in most of the air around them, "My sister, Nina flew over with her cardinal wings to her friends mom and she heard!" Tag's face showed a fraction of the puzzlement he was actually feeling. Beth giggled, "She heard, that the bats and crows were in a big feud about a year ago. So, Nina heard that the bats and crows still have a fight going on in Neloplee. The mom said that if that last crow survives and none of the bats do, they'd get control of all of Veronile." Beth drew in another huge breath to continue, "But if the bats win and there is only one left of them and no crows, then the bats get to do whatever they wish to Veronile. Our country could be in great danger or spared." Tag shrugged and gave Beth an unsatisfied glance, "That won't be hard the bats will overpower the crows easily." He seemed to have thought it was no big deal until Beth gave him a shake of her head, "If the bats or crows overpower one another the two youngest have to duel until one of them is dead. Sadly, that one youngest bat…is you." Tag's face turned into complete shock. He had not expected this to come out of the beginning of Beth's discovery. He brushed back his brown hair that covered his right eye. Beth looked toward the ground as her black hair went over her shoulder, "Now you see what we're up against." She stated. Tag looked her into her blue eyes and nodded. "Let's go play a game to get your mind out of it. Nina said that this probably wouldn't happen for another couple of months." Tag brought his head up and flew into the darkening sky. "Let's play a quick game of mount before it gets too dark!" Beth nodded. Mount was a game where you fly through the air to try and get your partner mounted on a cloud and can't escape. If they do escape then your partner wins. Beth smiled and flew into the air beside Tag and they flew around the sky until you couldn't see anymore besides the faint glow of the moon. Tag flew down and fell to the ground in exhaustion. Beth followed him and collapsed before she could make it any further. Her wings were soar and her eyes couldn't manage to stay open much longer. Tag on the other hand could most likely only make it to the nearby tree so he could hang upside down and go to sleep. As he did so he could only mumble the words, "Goodnight." To Beth before he was out cold just like her.
