HE'D NEVER TELL YOU
DISCLAIMER
Felt like doing another Zack/Jessie friendship fic. Again, inspired by the Taylor Swift song "I'd Lie". Saved by the Bell belongs to Miller-Boyett. I only own the scene. Takes place before they come up with Zack Attack.
Jessie walked into the Morris' living room.
"Zack?" she asked. There was no answer. She sighed. Knowing him, he probably forgot all about our study date and went out with Kelly, she huffed to herself. But she wasn't too mad at him. How could she be? He was her best friend. She started up the stairs, and that was when she heard it: the sounds of a guitar. Ooops. Guess I was wrong, she thought to herself with some embarrassment. If Zack was playing guitar, he had most likely slipped on his headphones, which meant that he hadn't forgotten about their agreement, he just hadn't heard her come in. She followed the sound until she reached her friend's bedroom and opened the door. His back was to her, so he was unaware that she had come in. She smiled as he played a wild but intricate guitar riff. This was a side of him he never let anyone but her see…not even Screech knew that Zack could play. Like practically every young kid, Zack had at one time dreamed of being a rock star. After a few lessons, however, he had decided being a musician wasn't for him. And yet, instead of dropping practice like she and his parents had expected, he had actually stuck with it, and had grown quite good over the years. His head started bobbing to the music he was playing, and she couldn't help it: she began to laugh. Finally sensing that he wasn't alone, Zack quickly turned around.
"Jessie," he said in surprise, pulling the headphones away.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you," she apologized. Then, "Now, are you ready to get down to business?"
"You know, about that, I was thinking---"
"No."
"Aw, but, Jessie!"
"No."
"Aw, come---"
"Zack, I thought you and your dad had a deal." He sighed.
"Yeah, I gotta get at least a 'B' or he won't take me to the Dodgers' game."
"Well, then. Let's get you that grade, huh?" Zack rolled his eyes at her, but pulled his books out of his backpack.
"I gotta warn you, Jess, I'm gonna need a lot of help, because I was completely confused."
"With which subject?"
"The history paper."
"On the Civil War?"
"Well, he didn't say which aspect! Are we supposed to look at the Yankees, the Confederates, the ramifications, the causes…or what?"
"Yeah…Testaverde was rather vague, wasn't he?"
"Yeah, and the fact that no one can even understand him---even if you try to talk to him after class---"
"Zack, calm down. Let's just re-read the books, and then go over everything." This was another side that Zack would never show. He actually did care about his grades, but he wouldn't ever admit it, being afraid of ruining his reputation as a goof-off. Zack ran his fingers through his hair and scooted closer to Jessie. Man, thank goodness for her. I don't know what I'd do, he thought to himself. As they poured over their books, Jessie glanced at her friends. Yeah, Zack cared about his grades…but he'd never tell the others.
