"Let It Be Said Of Us" by Mrs Chang
Let it be said of us that we were brave,
Let it be said that we were strong,
Not that we were always right,
But that we were rarely wrong
Let it be known that we were mighty,
Let it be known that we were great,
Let the world know that we brought peace,
And, in doing so, abolished hate
Let us say that we were young,
And that we lived life to the full,
Let us say that we did our job,
Didn't lose to the war and its pull
Let them say that we were the good guys,
Blessed with courage, grace and skill,
Don't tell them 'bout the lives we took,
The people, the dreams, we killed
Let our children hear a tale
Of those most brave and true,
But leave out how we waged a war,
Then tried to end it, too.
Let them say that we were loved,
And that we loved in return,
Let them say they saw the passion,
They watched that fire burn
And when we all have passed away,
And our bodies are laid to rest,
Let the tombstones tell our tale
To all the cemetary's guests
Let them hear how we were heroes,
Let them believe it, too,
But still the truth will live on
In the thoughts of me and you
For though war brought us glamour,
And though it brought us fame,
It also changed our hearts and souls,
We'll never be the same
So tell them the incredible story,
And give them all the proof,
But leave out all the death,
Sometimes you're better off without the truth.
Let it be said of us that we were brave,
Let it be said that we were strong,
Not that we were always right,
But that we were rarely wrong
Let it be known that we were mighty,
Let it be known that we were great,
Let the world know that we brought peace,
And, in doing so, abolished hate
