After seeing Inception for the thrid time I firgured that it was time I wrote a fic for it. This is probably horrible, but it's a really complex movie. Even if you hate it, please just write a review.

Layers

An Inception short story

Summary: "So he went through the layers of the dream, losing track of time, just searching for the truth that he had once known, aching to be with his family again."

He couldn't have planted it in Mal's mind without believing in it himself. Even if it was just a small inkling of a feeling, he still knew that it rang at least slightly true. But really, who was he to say whether it was reality or not? That's why he had to know, that's why he did it. He wasn't really leaving his children, or that was what he told himself. He reasoned that if Mal was right, he would see them all again soon. This whole ordeal would be nothing but a memory, a dream. He wanted it to be special. That was why he went the same way Mal did. As he step off the building and into freefall he could only pray that it would all work out in the end.

He was almost disheartened to wake up. If that was just a dream, then what was really reality? So he went through the layers of the dream, losing track of time, just searching for the truth that he had once known, aching to be with his family again. Each time he was met with a projection of the people that he held most dear, and each time it was harder to let go. He was getting closer to the waking world, he could feel it.

Who had known how much time had passed. At times he considered just waiting the dream out. It must be over soon. He and Mal couldn't have traveled that far down. He was getting impatient, just wanting to see his wife and two beautiful children again. The projection still tried to stop him, but to no avail. Nothing could stop him now. He was going to be with his family soon, and that was all that mattered.

He put the gun to his head, and pulled the trigger. This time, though, there was just darkness before everything was gone.
