Chapter 1
Normal POV
"May…May…MAY!"
"Five more minutes mom." The teen grumbled into her pillow.
"I'm not mom, I'm MAX! And you said that five minutes ago." May's younger sibling whined.
May sleepily opened her crust filled eyes and looked at her clock.
"Oh my god Max! I have to be at school in twenty minutes! Why didn't you wake me up?" May slipped out of bed and jogged over to her messy closet to find her school uniform.
Max walked out of the room with an eye roll and grumbled something like, "Why do I even bother."
May rushed to get ready. She got dressed, brushed her hair, ate breakfast, and brushed her teeth in under ten minutes. (Only because she tried to do it all at the same time.)
By the time may got down stairs, her father had already left for work in the only vehicle they had in their family. So the grumpy teen was stuck walking.
"Great, it's my first day of school and I'm probably marked as absent. This is just perfect." May mumbled under her breath as she walked sown the abandoned streets to her school.
May got halfway down the block when a silver Durango pulled up beside the sidewalk.
May didn't acknowledge it until the driver's window rolled down to reveal a green haired woman probably in her early thirty's. May ignored the fact that the driver was staring right at her with a curious look on her face. After a quick glance of her watch, the lady asked, "Excuse me, would you like a ride to school? I would really hate it if you were late and I could have done something about it."
"Oh, no thanks. I'm fine." May answered as she continued her walk.
"Well, ok. Just stay in school, ok sweetie." With that, the woman drove off.
As the car passed by, she saw a boy in the back seat around her age with green hair. Their eyes locked on each other's for a brief, very awkward three seconds.
"Green hair? I guess he takes after his mother." May stated to herself as the car drove out of sight.
May's POV
After a couple more minutes of walking, I finally reached her new school, but the first bell had already rung.
"Excuse me, can you tell me where I could find Mr. Beat's classroom?" I asked the secretary behind the desk.
She had on a white blouse with a black pencil skirt, course blond hair that was pulled up in a tight bun, and black high heeled shoes. Her fingers stopped typing on the key pad of the computer as she lifted her sea green eyes to look at me.
"Go down the hall, up the steps, turn right, go through the door to your left."
"Ok, thank-" I was cut off by the secretary as she continued to speak.
"And then got through the door straight ahead, got to your left, down the steps, go to your second right, then go through the door to your left."
I nodded. How could one person remember all of those steps? I had already forgotten what to do once you get up the steps, so I think I'll just wing it. I occasionally glanced at the signs taped on the cream colored walls for further directions. Once I started to look around, I noticed that the school didn't have much color. There's white, white, white, hey that's new. There's grey on that wall. I scowled at my sarcastic remark. I guess this is what a private school is like.
After a few minutes of walking and talking to myself, I somehow arrived at an empty science lab. I glanced around the room and the only colored poster on the wall caught my eye. It turned out to be a chart for what to mix to get a certain chemical. Science wasn't my most favorite subject, but when it came to mixing chemicals, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.
Just then, the door opposite to her opened to reveal a boy with green hair and an annoying smirk.
"Hey Gary, Mr. Beats wants-" the boy stopped his sentence when his eyes fell on me. With a flick of his grassy hair, he stepped closer and held out his hand.
'Hey, that's the same guy I saw in that car.' I thought to myself…'wow small world.'
"Hey, I'm Drew." He said nonchalantly. I took his outstretched hand and shook it.
"I'm May, I'm new…and lost." I admitted with a sigh. I hung my head in shame as I started to pout.
"So you're the famous May we've been hearing about for the past week. Isn't your dad the Pettalburg gym leader?" Drew asked, while smirking to my reaction of the twisted hallways.
"Yah, he got the job about two weeks ago." I stated, suddenly out of my depressed state.
"Cool, so I was actually sent down here to get another class mate to come and get you. The secretary said it looked like you took a wrong turn." He said while guiding me to the door he just came in from.
"I think I took more than one wrong turn." I stated, suddenly feeling depressed again.
Drew noticed this and smirked.
"Don't feel bad airhead, I got lost too when I was new…but of course that was on orientation and the guide had no idea where he was going so, technically it wasn't my fault."
I scowled at his nickname for me.
"Being an airhead I can live with, but I think I would die if I was ever a grasshead." I put the emphasis on grasshead and smirked at his scowl.
"You know what you little bi-"
"Hey, there you guys are. Come on, Mr. Beats is waiting for you two." A student that just came out of a classroom said.
Drew sent a glare at me but entered the room.
"Drew, you're back, and you brought Miss. Maple with you." The teacher in the front of the classroom said.
"I am Mr. Beats and I will be your English teacher for the year. Class, this is May Maple. May these are your classmates."
