Why do I have to give a speach? This is a really terible idea. Sure, I'm the kid who killed Voldemort but speaches? No way. Also, my handwriting's awful and I can't spell. Everyone's going to be watching me and I'll just be standing there like a lemon. I'll probably stutter or something. Why can't Hermione give a speach? I bet she'd be brilliant at it. She refused to write mine for me which I think is just unfair.
Anyway here goes. My attempts at a speach...
A year ago today, I lost a lot of people who meant a lot to me. I'm sure you all know the history of the second wizarding war, but let us take a moment to remember why so many people sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Hogwarts.
During the second wizarding war hundreds of lives were destroyed. Even here at Hogwarts unimaginable things occured. All of those who fought here fought for the freedom of the students, and Iindeed the lives of all of us.
Cedric Diggory was the first person I watched die. He was killed for no reason except that he was in the way.
Sirius Black, my godfather, spent most of his life in prisonf or a crime he didn't commit. He was murdered by his cousin because he tried to protect me and my parents.
Colin Creevey was a child when he snuck back to Hogwarts to fight the Death Eaters. Fred Weasley could always make everyone smile and he was still laughing as he died. Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks died together leaving their newborn son alone in the world.
I know a lot of people think I was the one who defeated Voldemort. That's not true. It was all of us. Everyone who fought for the Order, for Hogwarts deserves a mark of honour. Everyone who helped to rebuild after the war should be remembered.
This year I watched as students returned to Hogwarts. Yes, the classes were smaller, the hallways quieter, but I think it was incredible that so many people- parents, former pupils and staff here at Hogwarts helped to make the school safe for pupils again.
We should never forget what happened here. Never forget the lives that were given so that we could live. Those who fought here should always be remembered with respect. However, although we should never forget, we must forgive. It's not an easy thing to do, but it is necessary. We cannot let grief and hatred tear our world apart.
This war happened because prejudice was nurtured by society. We must stop this prejudice now. No-one is better than anyone else, whether they be poor or rich, wizard or muggle, Slytherin or Gryffindor. We must teach ourcchildren and our children's children that all of us are equal. Teach kindness and peace, and hope that they grow up in a world free fron war.
Oh Merlin. What if it's awful? It seems kind of long-what if everyone's bored? And what if I make everyone cry? What if no-one cries? Argh I knew I shouldn't have agreed to this.
