"Only the strongest deserves to live," Kaito Kumon walked forward, on his path.
"Nah, Kaito, I've always admired your strength," Zack's voice echoed from behind, "But… whenever I see you, I can only feel sadness. It's not admiration anymore, there's only… pity."
Kaito didn't bother looking back. "Pity is for the weak."
"That's right, Kaito-san," Peco's voice came this time, "But I wonder, what'll be the meaning of strength in a world where everyone's strong?"
"Who'll be the backup dancers if everyone wants to remain in front?"
Kaito only frowned, and continued walking.
"I don't need anyone or anything. The weak should just disappear."
"Is that so, Kaito?" Mai's smiling face beams in front of him. "Then I wonder why you keep saving this weak me?"
Kaito sighed. "I said already. You are strong in your own way."
Mai smiled again, "What's your way then? What kind of strength do you seek?"
Kaito looked away. "The strength to rule… and…" surprisingly, he found himself stumbling for words.
"Are you as pathetic as me?" Mitsuzane's dark-eyed face became visible. "Don't joke."
Kaito tried to shake the thoughts out of his head. But it's like a never-ending train of thoughts.
"Kaito," Shapool's grinning from ear-to-ear face appeared, "you really don't want anyone else to end up like you, right?" he asked. "That's why you saved me!"
Yes. Indeed, he did not want to see anymore 'him'. Sufferings of weak, in the hand of strong people, that's why this was needed. A brand new world.
"And we can start building it right here," Kouta's voice spoke, as if reading his thoughts, "from our own positions, little by little, doing whatever we can."
"Using our own power, right?" Mai also walked in and said with a smile.
"This world may not tolerate weakness, but we become more human because of our weakness," Kouta said again.
"And no matter what you say Kaito, I know you'll always be there to protect the weak," Mai said with another flash of smile.
Maybe. Maybe not. But after all, this world still has so many stories, unknown, unseen. There's still hope.
And maybe, just maybe, Kaito could have hoped for a better tomorrow.
Maybe he hoped he lived.
