Jon walked into their chamber. He unclasped his cloak and draped it on a chair. He turned around to greet Daenerys but Rhaena, their 3-year old daughter, ran to him so he picked her up and swung her around. Rhaena giggled and kissed her father's cheek.
"How's my favourite lady doing?" Jon asked.
"Good!" she replied.
"She says that now. She threw a tantrum because she wouldn't go to sleep before you returned," Daenerys told him.
"Seems like she won," Jon noted, setting Rhaena down on the ground.
"She missed her father, I couldn't deny her," Daenerys replied. Jon leaned down on the bed to kiss his wife. Then he bowed further down to kiss her pregnant belly.
"How's our son doing?" Jon asked. Daenerys shook her head.
"I'm sure it is a girl," she said, caressing her quickly-growing belly.
"We'll know soon enough," he said.
"I'm going to have a brother!" Rhaena exclaimed, hopping onto the bed. Jon picked her up and set her down between them.
"Really, Rhaena?" Daenerys said. She nodded excitedly.
"Maester Sam said so!" she said. Jon Snow smiled.
"He also thought you were going to be a boy," Daenerys answered. Rhaena frowned in silence. Then she leaned down and put her ear to Daenerys belly. Something she had been doing a lot once she understood her future sibling was in there. Rhaena whispered something before listening again.
"It's a boy," she said, looking up at her parents.
"If you say so, darling," Daenerys said, kissing her daughter's head.
"Let's get you to bed now, alright?" Jon asked. Rhaena frowned but knew better than to object, it was already far past her bedtime. He took his daughter by the hand and walked her to her bed before returning to his wife.
"Get here quickly, she's moving!" Daenerys said. Jon hurried to her side and laid his hands on her belly. They shared a long silence, feeling their baby move.
"Strong and healthy," Jon said.
"Strong and healthy," Daenerys replied. It's a habit they had gotten into during Daenerys's last pregnancy. She was worried sick because of her first pregnancy and they hoped for the baby to be born healthy. So they'd repeat these words to each other tirelessly until the baby was born.
The room was silent while Jon changed out of his clothes when there was a knock on the door.
Jon opened the door and returned with a letter in his hand. He was reading it as he returned to the bed.
"What is it?" Daenerys asked.
"Podrick has woken up. He's going to be fine," Jon said, setting the letter down on the table.
"That's good to hear. Brienne would have never forgiven herself," Daenerys said.
"It wasn't her fault," Jon commented.
"I know, but she would still blame herself," Daenerys said.
Jon settled down in bed and Daenerys snuggled close to Jon, his arm around her.
"Arya wants to start training Rhaena in a few weeks," Daenerys said. Although Jon could easily train Rhaena herself, they agreed Arya would train her, Jon already had enough tasks as it was.
"Isn't she just a little too young?" Jon said.
"That's what I thought… but I also want her to be able to protect herself even if it is just a little." Daenerys said.
"So what did you tell her?" Jon asked.
"Well, I asked her and she said something about a 'pointy end' and that you'd understand," she said. Jon laughed.
"Yes, it'll be alright," Jon said, "that's what I taught her when I gave her her own sword," he further explained when Daenerys looked puzzled.
"Well, she got there alright, I guess we can trust her to train our daughter," Daenerys said.
"I think we can. Now let's go to sleep, love. Our visitors will arrive early tomorrow," Jon told his queen. They shared a long kiss before they snuggled close under their furs and drifted off to sleep.
