Title: Dark Needs
Author: Sanguinary
Rating: P.G. 13
Improv: glow -- rain -- bound -- crave
Disclaimer: Angel is a product of Joss' twisted imagination, not mine.
Author's Notes: Sometime after Renuion.
Steady thumping. Like the sound of rain on a tin roof.
The sound of a thousand heartbeats.
Eye slowly open, taking in the darkness around him. Fumbling with the lamp switch, he bathes
the room in sickly yellow light. Taking in the room where he sleeps.
And he realizes, there is something beside him.
Slowly he turns over...
And looks into the dead eyes of a corpse.
She lies nude on the bedspread. A circle of teeth mark, adorn her neck like a decoration.
Red hair is spread out, looking like blood against the white sheets. But there is drying blood
here somewhere. Staining the sheet and slowly turning to rust.
Scars cover her arms, the result of street fights and brawls over the years. A missing pinky
and half an earlobe. Both injures he didn't cause. But there are fresh scratches, the result
of a fight.
Or maybe something else.
Something that should not be able to do. Something that he should have never done.
Flashes of last night start to come back.
A fight. Vampires. Or were they demons? There was a... glow around them. Or was that just the
way they had looked to him. And they were attacking her. She fought back and he jumped in,
doing what he does best.
Killing.
He finished the monsters off. And she was shaking, cold and frightened. No place to go.
Asking her to stay at the hotel. Getting back. She offers him some sort of drink.
Fiery. Like blood but not as salty. But that copper twang that sends chills though his spine.
The drink made him warm inside.
And then, he realized.
She had drugged him. Not the happy drug but, something different. Familiar in the way that
pain is. You know how it will feel and part of you is comforted by it. She spoke in sentences
that didn't make sense. And then...
Then...
Nothing.
And he finds himself looking at the still corpse beside him.
But what is worse, what is bothering him more than the body, is the fact that he feels nothing.
No, that's not true.
He feels hollow, like something has eaten away the ability to feel anything inside. Part of
him has always know that this was bound to happen. That one day he'd forget and then he'd kill
someone. He almost killed Kate.
Logic takes over, forcing it's way to the surface like an unwanted visitor. He must get rid of
the body. Destroy the sheets, remove any trace of her being here.
The body first. He wraps it up in the sheets that it is lying in. He'll leave it in an alley.
And somewhere in the back of his mind, back were the demon lurks, it notes that the body is no
longer a her, but rather an it.
And the demon chuckles. ~Fitting burial for a whore like herself~
Day is ending and in a few minutes he will be able to escape.
And his mind begins to wander, thinking about the night to come. The body will soon find a
resting place and Angel can go on with his goal of salvation. Back to fighting Dru and Darla.
Back to tormenting Lindsey and Lilah.
Trudging onward.
Until the craving takes hold of him again.
~End~
