Ok…hello. No, this is another one of those 'Why the Newsie Section Sucks' kind-a thing. And I bet a lot of you are tired of these things but I have a few things I'd like to say.
First of I do agree with a few things that the 'Why the Newsie Section Sucks'. They do have a few good points as do most arguments. I even reviewed for one saying how much I agreed with what they were saying. After I reviewed I read the only other review and felt kind-a bad for what I had said. They had right to get upset. So hear I am to defend both of these authors.
Now, while some of the fics in the Newsie Section may not 'suck' their summaries do. This may keep people away from really good fics which is a shame and there could be mountains of good fics out there just waiting to be read. Also I have to agree that the Mary Sue is a little annoying but who hasn't written a Mary Sue? I know I did when I first started writing. And the time travel is a bit over done. Now I'm not attacking these types of fan fics. I'm just pointing out the fact that maybe some authors could come up with something more creative.
Ok, time to defend the other side. Yes, I fully agree that the whole point of fanfiction.net if for young authors to test their abilities. The whole idea of the site is creativeness. So what if the story has a Mary Sue in it? How do we (the readers) know anything about this author? Maybe this person is a 10 year old kid who is just starting out. Or maybe the author writes to get away from the real world and makes a perfect on in their fics. So yes, even though there are tons of Mary Sue's and they are annoying it's ok.
So yes we have only briefly looked at both sides of this battle and we have only looked at a few matters on the table. I would also like to put out in the air that the people who write the 'Why the Newsie Section Sucks' could possibly be trying to help others. In reviews we deal with flames, these types of notices could just be eye-openers and helpers to new authors in the Newsie Section. I'm not trying to attack anybody at all in this statement but maybe…sometimes…people don't really hear the suggestions that others are trying to say. Maybe people should not be so quick to defend themselves to some suggestions that may have a barbed front.
I would personally like to see these 'Why the Newsie Section Sucks' notices come to an end. We're all trying and the suggestions are helpful, but maybe instead we can post guides on how to write a better fanfic.
As an after note…or whatever I would just like to say that this statement of mine is not meant to attack anyone or anything like that. I just want to let people see things through the eyes of both sides. So please, stop the derogatory comments. Even if they aren't meant to be hurtful people are taking them that way. So yes…now I've said my peace and hopefully you other authors in Fanfic land will agree with me.
