Tosh opened her eyes. Valentines Day. The worst day ever. Another year, another rejection. Seriously, it's a day where people in relationships can rub the single peoples' noses in it. She knew that it would be another night alone. She'd bought the whiskey already. She followed the same plan every Valentines day. Go to work, ignore the happy couples, drink herself to sleep then pretend nothing happened the next day.

After getting up and showering, she put some toast into the toaster. She sighed. She hated the world. She hated the loneliness. She hated herself. What was stopping her going to a bar tonight and getting a date? Owen. She'd always told herself it was just a crush but, who was she kidding? Then she heard the post. She flicked through it then paused. It was a red envelope. She opened it. Inside was a pink card, shaped as a love heart. It read:

Dearest Toshiko,

You are beautiful,
You are divine,
Just one question,
Will you be mine?

Love Owen.

Tosh knew that it must be a hoax. Owen didn't like her, did he?

Owen sat at home. Tosh would of got his card by now. He was scared. He wondered what she'd think. He was good at hiding his feelings. Since Katie, he'd been frightened of love because the world can be cruel. He had lots of one-night stands because of fear of commitment. He was also scared of rejection. Tosh was too good for him, wasn't she?

Owen put on his best suit and grabbed his car keys. He drove to Tosh's apartment and cautiously knocked on the door.

Tosh was sat on her sofa, eating ice cream. She couldn't help but wonder if the card was sincere. Then there was a knock at the door. She answered it. It was Owen. He was probably here to laugh about the card or something. But before he could say anything, he crushed his lips against hers. When the kiss finally broke, he whispered, 'Happy Valentines day'.
