THE NIGHTMARE

Overwhelming heat engulfed me as I sat up, fumbling to stand up as I backed away, terrorised by the flames that began to encircle me like a swarm of bees to honey. It was a matter of life and death as I raced to escape the ever growing beast of pain. I felt the flames wrap around me like vines of poison ivy, leaving their blistering marks as they retreated. I ran and ran but no matter how fast I was the wall of fire came at me faster, doubling my speed. I dodged blasts and leaped over rivers of gold as hot as the sun. I tripped and landed to my knees, I turned to see what I could have possibly missed to make me stumble so hard. Terror and fear set in as I realised what I originally mistook for a pile of dead leaves was actually a carcass of what seemed to be a deer, with fear left in its stone cold eyes, already conquered and defeated by the wild demons of hell. Was this what fate intended? The blistering heat pounced on me like a tiger, making me loose me balance. I fell to my knees, knowing now there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and this was it. The wind blew at the burning forest, sighing and cackling like hyenas, howling as I suffered. I began to tire and my breath shortened to mear pants. My head became light nd limbs heavy, I saw the flames caught up to me like cheetahs of amber and gold as they mocked me with their elegant strides. The biting flames slowly surrounded me, I felt like a rabbit in the headlights, the fire ganged up on me like a pack of starving wolves eyeing up my ash covered skin as if it were the only meal they'd had in weeks. I was tearing up as the smoke stung my senses. My cries of pain, anger and defeat were a mear whimper as the flames roared like lions in the desolate forest that now glowed like a beacon. I lay on the smouldering and sodden ground, waiting for my last breath to take me away, the smoke crept in with bony grey fingers, clasping together as they formed a cage around me, cradling my body like a limp injured animal. The trees shook and weeped in fear as their burning fate came upon them, just as I would soon be taken from life. The golden gates of hell seemed to tower ten feet tall above me, waiting for my arrival. My eyelids felt heavy, urging me to close them as I fought for my last few minutes of my life. I couldn't bare the struggle anymore, I gave into the drowsiness as I closed my eyes, I had no choice anymore, no where to go, no one to turn to and all idea run out. I was cheated by death as it had finally caught onto men just beyond my darkness, the silent ominous glow of death enchanted me, summoned me, tempting me into my final destination as a shadowed hand reached out to grab mine and pull me into the light. I slowly walked towards it willingly, telling myself this was it, it was the end. It was just a bad dream, a tormenting nightmare, but it wasn't...
