"Lily, I love you." Severus said desperately, reaching for Lily's warm hands. "Please forgive me."
Lily shook her head, and swallowed a sob. She had no reply. How could she respond? Severus was her best friend, the only person she could be herself with. The only person she trusts, but he threw it away like it meant nothing to him.
"Lily, please—" Snape stopped when he saw the red-haired girl break down into tears. "Lily?"
"HOW COULD YOU?" She screamed, while pointing her pale finger at Snape's long nose.
"You don't under—" He said desperately. But the look on Lily's face worried him, she was furious, and the last thing Snape wanted to see was an angry Lily. So he stopped and let her scream anything she wanted to, even if it will hurt him. 'Anything for Lily', he said in his head, 'anything.'
"You said you would never ever join him!" She cried, pushing him. "But you did! You still did!"
The only thing Snape managed to do was look down. Then she felt cold fingers touch his chin, the fingers pushed his head up, and he found himself looking straight into Lily's emerald green eyes.
"Why did you do it?" This time, her voice was calm. Severus Snape wanted to embrace her right there at that very moment, but he knew she would just push him away.
"I can't tell you, Lily." He sighed.
All she did was laugh, but her laugh wasn't happy. Lily seemed to be mocking him because of his answer. "You can't tell me?" She laughed once more, louder now. "I can't tell you, Lily!" She repeated him, imitating his deep voice. "Say that to my arse, Severus Snape!" She scowled.
The tall, sickly, thin boy shook his head, he didn't know what to say.
"You're a coward, Sev." She said, not meeting his dark eyes. Then she walked away, she wasn't sure where she was going but she just walked, with a tiny spark of hope that Severus would grab her wrist and stop her from walking.
But he did nothing. He just watched her go until he lost her sight.
"I did it for you, Lily Evans." He whispered.
