The boy was gone. Sam and Castiel faced each other.

"You wouldn't understand," Sam tried to control the anger in his voice. "Choosing to ignore power isn't easy for humans. Power can protect people."

"Or harm them," Cass responded.

Sam took a breath, but stood his ground. "I never wanted to harm anyone, but you would have killed this boy."

"He is prophesied to kill me and my brothers and sisters."

"Lillith killed my brother." Sam nearly whispered, then walked away, so Castiel wouldn't see the tears in his eyes.

Cass stared at the empty space. "Maybe I can understand."
