As if he didn't know it. He had a little chance on survive. But if be real and forget about these thoughtless hopes and dreams, he will die…anyway.
The nuclear missile should explode in the city and Tony tried to change its course. On a few seconds of flight he drowned in thoughts: "Why have they done it? Did these people remember about their duty on the one moment? Their duty is taking care about security of civilians. So why (the hell) are they going to eliminate innocent people?" Maybe it sounded strange but question was too easy. They thought that death of thousands or millions could save milliards. These people didn't care about other wretched persons who were locked in this trap of death as Avengers who tried to save people. Of course, they couldn't go on risk. If they still could be indifferent in these situations where it was necessary, they'd listen their minds. But the job, like they had, makes people cold-blooded, unfeeling, heartless, cruel… They weren't humans, but robots.
But Jarvis's offer to call Pepper returned him to the reality. And, of course, he agreed. Tony wanted to talk with her. Probably, this will be their last conversation. So he must hear her voice which he loved so much, which was more perfect for him than angel's song. He must say how he cares about her, how much she means for him. And in the end he must confess to something very important. And he was sorry now that he didn't do it earlier. But Pepper didn't answer. Probably, she turned off the sound on her phone to don't digress from news. He knew that she's okay but he still worried that something bad has happened. But now he must concentrate on his plan.
Why did he decide that he must do it? But who will do it if he won't? Thor? No, he must help here. So he is the only who can save the day. He knew that he must win. He had people for whom he could avenge.
Agent Phil Coulson. Yeah, Stark had some problems with this guy but Phil was a really good man. He was a hero who died but did everything he could do to protect SHIELD, Avengers and other people. Of course, he must be avenged.
Avengers: Hawkeye, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, Hulk. Every of them are ready to die for another. They must be avenged too.
Pepper Potts. She wasn't ordinary person for him. Tony didn't know how but he fell in love with her. He didn't understand it earlier. But he knows it now, so he must do everything to save her. She must live and be happy…even if the cost will be his life.
He avenged for all of them and they will avenge for him. He knew it. Tony flew into the portal. He crossed the line. Tony gasped. "Sir, Mrs. Potts…" And Jarvis switched off. Tony's body went limp and Iron Man let missile flew to the enemy's base. Tony watched at collide and explosion. He was falling down; he was closer to the portal with every second. But it wasn't important. Finally he lost consciousness. The darkness surrounded him but he didn't fear. He made his vengeance and aliens paid for their attack on the Earth. Tony smiled in thoughts. The only thing he saw was an image of one woman he really cared about. She is safe. Even if I will die, Fury will give her all things which I wanted to give her. Only bad thing: if I will die, she'd not be my wife. Although, we will have another life, life after death, to find it out.
But Pepper is safe. And this is the main thing.
"Goodbye…" Tony whispered.
And he fell down, down, down…
