The Ionian forests were a calming view, the tall trees forming a seemingly impenetrable wall of green and brown that extended for miles, from the Highlands to the ox-riddled fields where the Ionians laboured all day.
Now that the Institute of War had come into action and claimed sovereignty over all conflict related business in Valoran, Rengar did have plenty of time to kick back and breathe. And in all honesty, he enjoyed not feeling the thrill of the hunt once in a while.
Siting on the branch of an ancient sequoia, Rengar gazed at his surroundings. The morning mist was still thick, making it look like he was surrounded by clouds all around. In the distance he could hear a creek. Some birds. Here and there, leaves shuffling and branches cracking made the hunter's ears twitch in alert. Rengar took a deep breath, tasting the fresh spring air, still cold from the harsh winter that had come before.
Chewing on a juicy apple, his tail waved playfully beneath the branch. He took his hand and combed his fur, twisting the ends of his braids. Throwing his apple away he swiftly got up and crouched on the branch, holding his breath he focused on the sounds around him. The Pridestalker gently picked up his Kirai Sabre, spinning it on his fingers and gripping it tight.
"I feel... Prey". Like a feather, hopping from a branch to another, Rengar made his way towards the curious sound. The mist didn't allow vision for more than three arm lengths so he was basing his search on his other senses. Fine by him, it only added to the emotion.
"How I missed this feeling" he mumbled under his breath. Rengar entered his hunter stance. He was in control, he could feel it all. Moving like a shadow, his heartbeat echoed through his skull, everything else silent.
Suddenly, he stops. His prey was right in front of him, somewhere lost in the mist. Rengar leaped, his saber above his head ready for the deadly blow to the victim, releasing a menacing growl, as to release some of the adrenaline of the hunt.
"I'VE GOT YOU CREATURE" he screamed triumphantly as he carved the saber inside the poor creature's body. But as he tried to pull his saber back, something was off. There was no wet sound, the victim's body did not offer any resistance to the blade's advance. It was soft tissue... Too soft to be alive. Rengar realized this and analysed better what he had just stabbed.
He stared dumbfounded at a big ball of blue yarn at his feet, or what was left of it after his blade had cut through it. A distorded laugh echoed through the forest, sending a chill down the Pridestalker's spine. "You big dumb CAT! HAHAHA!".
Rengar looked up noticing a curved silhouette on a branch not far from him. It was his own nemesis, the Void's finest, Kha'Zix. "You are way too easy to fool. The best hunter in Runeterra? Please." Rengar was livid, humiliated by his own nemesis. How could have he been tricked by a prank like this? He grabed his bola, throwing it in the voidborn's direction in rage but Kha'Zix cloaked and jumped away into the mist before it ever got close to him.
Rengar sat down and stroked his beard, catching his breath. "Why can't I enjoy myself without that bug ruining my happiness". He chuckled lightly, kicked the ravaged ball of yarn away and sheathed his saber. He looked up at the sun, the mist was fading away. It was almost lunch time. Picking up his satchel bag he started making his way towards his lair.
He would get that bug. Some day.
