Prankster's Proxy

Chapter 1 – The Best Prank of All Time

"Y'know James," Remus Lupin said, scanning a bit of parchment with his eyes to make sure there were no teachers about to walk into the eerily empty hall, "Skipping potions to pull a prank first day back after Christmas isn't exactly going to impress Lily."

Sirius Black looked up and scowled at him. "Evans should not be on your mind just now Moony, covering the entire Great Hall with pink glitter should be on your mind just now."

'Moony' rolled his eyes. "With completely impartial glitter distribution I see," he said dryly, taking note of the fact that the package charmed and disillusioned in the middle of the Slytherin table was disproportionately bigger than any of the other packages.

Sirius gave an evil grin. "Of course," he said simply.

Fred Weasley affixed the last package to the centre of the Ravenclaw table and grinned at his twin brother who was finishing the disillusionment charms on the packages dotted on the Hufflepuff table. "Any sign of teachers, prefects or the Granger-monster?" he asked George lightly.

"None," his twin said, "And that was the last," he gave an evil grin. "Looking forward to seeing the Great Hall covered in glitter this fair lunchtime, oh brother of mine?"

"That and the utter look of horror on Umbitch's face as she realises this is only the first prank of a new year and term."

"That too."

"Your sister's going to kill us, you know that right?" Roxanne Weasley managed to sound supremely unconcerned as she addressed her cousin, who was disillusioning a bulky package stuck to the teachers' table.

James Potter looked up and shrugged. "She's done her bit. She knows that Mum'd kill her if she skipped Care of Magical Creatures to help us splatter the Great Hall in glitter. Especially first day back after Christmas."

Fred Weasley, Roxanne's twin, grinned from his place leaning against the Gryffindor table. "That's not gonna stop her from killing us, mate. She said explicitly that she wanted in on this one."

James rolled his eyes. "She's only a third year. Besides, she'll see the results at lunch, same as everyone else. Anyone coming?"

Roxanne pulled a piece of parchment out of her pocket and tapped it with her wand, muttering something under her breath. "None."

"Let's go then."

Three groups of house-elves cooked away and sent food up to the fifteen tables. Nine pranksters went about their business, smirking occasionally, though managing to look completely innocent. Three Professor McGonagalls gave them suspicious looks. Two Dumbledores twinkled away. Younger siblings sighed at their looks, one of them with a murderous glint in her eye.

Three sets of Hogwarts' students sat down for the first Hogwarts lunch after their holidays.

Three sets of pranksters muttered code words and shot off spells.

Three sets of glittery packages exploded.

One thing went supremely wrong.
