Red Ribbon

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto

Sakura strolled past a clump of bushes near the Ninja Academy when she heard a little sniffle.

Curious as to what had made the noise, the medic-nin parted the bushes and found a young girl with dark, spiked hair. The child was squatted and crying, facing away from Sakura.

The rosette looked at the child in concern.

"Hello there, little one."

The child squeaked a bit in surprise, before turning around to face who had spoken with wide crimson eyes.

"What's wrong?"

It took a while for the young girl to speak. "Wh-Who are y-you?"

"Sakura, what's your name, hmm?"

O-oh, Ayame, Miss."

"Is that so. Now, may I know why it is that you're upset?"

Ayame started to cry again in earnest, causing Sakura to crouch down to her level and try to console the distraught child.

"E-everybody t-t-teases me b-because of the c-colour of m-my e-eyes. They s-say that I'm the d-d-daughter of a d-d-d-demon."

Immediately, Sakura felt anger at the cruel children for destroying a little girls confidence. Why should they attack her just because she's a little bit different from the others? Just because she's unique? Being unique is better than being the same as everyone else!

"The people who tease you are idiots. I believe that you have beautiful eyes."

Said crimson eyes widened.

"Y-you really think s-so?"

"Yeah. Besides, I know a kind and wonderful woman who has eyes just like you and is loved dearly by many."

"….D-do you t-think I c-could meet her sometime?"

"Sure thing. I'm sure that she would enjoy your company very much."

A small smile blossomed on Ayames face as Sakura stood up and grabbed something from her kunai pouch.

"Could you stand up and close your eyes for me?"

The young girl complied, and Sakura tied a magnificently red ribbon into the child's hair.

"You can open your eyes now."

Opening them, Ayame gently reached up with an arm and carefully felt what Sakura had done with her hair.

"When I was young," started Sakura. "I was bullied mercilessly because I had a large forehead. I had no friends, was extremely shy and soon enough my confidence was so low that the smallest thing made me burst into tears. But then a girl came along. Her name was Ino and she was popular, beautiful and had so much confidence in herself. She stuck with me and taught me how to believe in myself and be emotionally strong, eventually the two of us were best friends and inseparable. She gave that ribbon to me to help with my confidence and as a sign of our friendship. It's very special to me and I want you to take good care of it, and eventually give it to someone else who needs it more.

Solemnly, Ayame replied. "I w-will. I p-promise."

Sakura drew the girl into a tight hug and held onto Ayames hand when she finished, walking in the direction of where she reckoned Kurenai would be at this time of day.

"Now why don't we go see that lovely lady with the red eyes?"

Ayame touched the ribbon reverently.

"I w-would l-like t-that."

Georgie-chan

I reckon Sakura would show a more maternal and loving big sister kind of personality if she was ever confronted with this kind of thing. I hope that came out in the one-shot alright, without it seeming to out of character.

Review? ;)
