Oneshot

"No," Arthur lashed about. "Why should I go?"

"Because," Alfred replied. "It's a flu shot; you wanna set a good example for your citizens don't you?"

"Yes," Arthur grabbed his coat and his keys. "But…"

"But nuthin," Alfred slapped Arthur's shoulder. "Let's go!"

Alfred and Arthur arrived at the clinic moments later. Arthur parked the car and the pair walked in together. Arthur sat down as Alfred checked them both in. He handed Arthur his slip for the shot and sat down next to him. Arthur watched two children as they were playing with blocks and another pair were chasing after one another.

"Hey Britain dude you ok," Alfred asked. "You're shaking?"

"I am not shaking," Arthur replied. "You're a git for saying so."

"Wait a minute," Alfred said with a chuckle. "You're scared to get a shot aren't you?"

"No I am not you bloody idiot," Arthur stammered. "D-don't say such things!"

"Dude you're scared of a little needle," Alfred laughed. "You, a former pirate, one of the most powerful countries in the world, sacred of getting a shot?"

"Ok fine," Arthur replied, tears forming in his eyes. "I'm terrified all right, I admit it, I've never liked needles and I never will!"

Arthur started to cry a little.

"Dude it's ok," Alfred smiled and placed a comforting hand on Arthur's knee. "It's nothing to be ashamed of, everyone's scared of something, I'm scared of ghosts, you're scared of needles, so what?"

"You really mean that?" Arthur asked.

"Of course I do," Alfred replied. "Now come on let's go get this over with."

Arthur watched as Alfred rolled his shirt sleeve and took his shot with ease. Alfred winced a little bit then stepped down from the counter and a brightly colored band-aid on his arm where the shot had been.

Alfred smiled at an extremely nervous Arthur and helped him up on to the counter.

"I'll be right back with the medicine itself Mr. Kirkland." The nurse said.

The nurse left and as soon as Arthur saw the needle itself, he went completely white. He stopped shaking when he felt Alfred squeezing his hand.

"I can hold your hand if you'd like?" Alfred offered.

"What does he think I'm five?" Arthur thought, but then he looked into Alfred's eyes, they were sincere.

"Actually America," Arthur squeezed back. "I'd like that."

The nurse returned and looked over at the pair.

"He doesn't like needles." Alfred explained with a smile.

The nurse nodded and held up the shot.

"Are you ready sir?" she asked.

"Yes…" Arthur replied and squeezed Alfred's hand as tight as he could.

Before Arthur could even open his it was over. He then opened one eye and noticed the fluorescent green band-aid over the spot where the needle had gone in. He also looked over to notice how tight he was squeezing Alfred's hand.

"It's over Mr. Kirkland," the nurse smiled. "You may pay up front, good day gentlemen."

Alfred and Arthur said goodbye to the nurse, paid the clinic and walked out to Arthur's car.

"Hey America," Arthur rubbed the back of his neck. "Thanks…"

"Hey dude," Alfred placed his hand on Arthur's shoulder and smiled. "You're welcome."

Arthur smiled back and the pair continued on home.
