I was never sure about when it happened. It surely wasn't a love-at-first-sight thing, or a sudden jolt of realization. It took time.
It took time to fully understand her. To see the flashes of recognition when she got an idea. To see why she cared so much for the feelings of others. To see why she loved him.
It took time to see more than idolization in her eyes. To be sure the infatuation was real. To see that everything said when they were young was just talk, and that now was different.
It took time to be able to enjoy time with her, to finally be able to see through her actions and her frequent moods. To be amused by her jokes, and her embarrassment. It took time to smile at her optimism, so much different from my own perspective, and yet so welcoming.
It took time for me to realize how strong she was. How she could bear the weight of so much. How she could beat beat people down. How she could go so long without shedding a tear.
It took time until I wanted to savor the scent of her as she walked by. It took time until I wanted to catch the gaze of her jade eyes. It took time until I wanted to feel the softness of her skin, or the warmth of her lips on mine, or the heat of her body beside me. It took time until I wanted to know the taste of her, or hear again the ring of her laugh. It took time for me to yearn to put my hands in her hair, and tenderly caress her cheek.
It took time for me fall for her.
Some things take too much time.
