AN: Supernatural One-shot anyone? I've never written a romance story, so I hope you like it!
Take it Back
Dean was scared. He was angry, upset, depressed, and really scared.
Cas sat in the passenger seat, staring straight 's where Sam usually sits. Why had he agreed to let Sam jump into the cage? Why couldn't he save his little brother? He just lost him, again. And this time, he had promised to try not to bring him back. Like that'll happen. Cas looked at him, concerned. Dean kept a stony face, asking, "What're you going to do now." Castiel presumed facing forward, answering, "Return to heaven, I suppose."
Dean was surprised. "Heaven?"
"With Michael in the cage, I'm sure it's total anarchy up there."
"So what? You're the new sheriff in town?"
Completely serious, Cas said, "I like that. Yeah, I suppose I am."
For some reason, this infuriated Dean. "Wow, God gives you a brand-new, shiny set of wings, and suddenly you're his bitch again."
"I don't know what God wants," Cas ignored his comment. "I don't know if he'll even return. It just... seems like the right thing to do."
Dean was done with God. He was done with angels, the Bible, demons. Hunting. He was beyond done. "Well if you do see him, tell him I'm coming for him next." Maybe one more hunting job.
Castiel said calmly, "You're angry."
No freaking way! It's not like Lucifer just guaranteed your brother to spend all of eternity in a cage smack in the middle of Hell! But instead of saying this, Dean simply fumed, "That's an understatement."
"He helped," Cas defended his father. "Maybe even more than we realized."
Dean finally snapped. "That's easy for you to say. He brought you back. But what about Sam? What about me, huh? Where's my grand prize? All I got is my brother in a hole!"
Castiel shot back, "You got what you asked for, Dean. No paradise. No hell. Just more of the same. I mean it, Dean. What would you rather have? Peace or freedom?"
When Dean looked over, Cas was gone. He hit the steering wheel, nearly screaming with frustration. "Well you really suck at goodbyes, you know that!" He yelled at the ceiling. He can't take it.
He pulls over to some deserted gas station and climbs out of his Impala. The hunter hits the hood angrily. He finally allows a single tear to roll down his face. Dean leans against his car, head in his hands. When he looks up, there is Cas. Before he can say something, Castiel grasps his face and kisses him, hard. Dean is shocked, but he doesn't pull away, he just closes his eyes and grasps Cas's upper arms. As he lets more tears trace patterns on his face, he pours all of his anger, loneliness, and love into the kiss. Finally, he pulls away. Castiel looks at him and pulls him into a tight hug.
Dean smiles, just for a second, and breathes, "I take it back."
Castiel looks at him, confused.
"You are very good at saying goodbye."
And with one last passion-filled kiss, Cas disappears, and Dean is left with the ghost of his brother, and the love for an angel.
