This is my first fanfic, ever. So before you tell me how bad it is, I already know. (if you think its good, then that's great, too.) This story is for the HitsuHina 100 themes challenge on Live Journal (which I still need to figure out how to use).

Theme#13: Puzzle of the Mind

Disclaimer: I do not own Bleach. If I did, it would be me that legions of fangirls/boys worshipped, not Kubo-sama.

His vice-captain doesn't understand why he (cant) won't tell her.

Why he sits and listens to her praise another.

Why he tortures himself. Even though it's obvious.

The answer is simple: Because he wants her, but he can't have her.

She doesn't need to know.

She doesn't feel the same.

She loves (thattraitor) him.

She's left her (shirouchan) childhood behind.

He doesn't understand why he sits by her side.

Why her body, like an empty vessel, haunts him.

Why her face, pale and cold in the moonlight, tears him apart.

It's simple: He needs her; needs to be comforted be her presence.

But does she need (me) him?

Does she want (me) him?

Will she still believe him after he hurt her so?

Her eyes open. She is greeted by the sight of a youth asleep at her

bedside. Painful memories rip at her heart like birds at a corpse.

She doesn't understand why he's waiting for her.

Why he looks so peaceful…

And why his eyes are open, and gazing warmly at her, relieved.

In the span of seconds, a hundred questions ripple through the quiet

atmosphere. And as tears pool in her eyes, but a single one is heard…

"Why…?"

He holds her then, and as she sobs apologies into his robes, he realizes

that he knows why.

Simply: He loves her. And he tells her so.

And for the first time since before her captain's blood marred the

white walls of Seireitai, she is able to smile through her tears.

And he realizes that she hasn't left him after all.

No…She's just come home.

"I love you, too, Shirou-chan."

And everything will be fine.
