1. Diffidence
n. timidity or shyness
At the suggestion of riding a flying broomstick, Hermione would usually hide her face behind a book or come up with an excuse—as one always would be conjured by her brilliant brain—to evacuate the immediate premise. Even with the majority of her friends being Quidditch players, she never could understand the appeal of falling to one's death a hundred feet in the air.
Then a few months after the war, after all of the hectic business dealing with the aftermath of Voldemort's death was over, Ron came to her, blushing to the roots of his hair and wringing his hands nervously with a sudden show of diffidence. When he barely stammered out the words, "Would you like to fly with me?" while holding another broomstick forward, Hermione stomped down her fears and accepted the idiot's idea of a romantic date.
Later, Hermione would remark that it was "the most pathetic attempt at courtship ever" while Ron would wink and say smugly, "Well, it worked, didn't it?"
a/n: A drabble series based on SAT words.
By the way, it's probably obvious that I'm not British, so I apologize in advance if the characters say something they shouldn't say.
