At the Hospital
The rain leaked from the clouds as Toya stared out the window of the hospital. Silent tears streamed down his face as the rhythmic heart monitor beeped. His father, Fujitaka held his mother, Nadeshiko's hand. No tears leaked from Fujitaka's eyes but you could tell he wanted to cry. A woman stood in the hallway. Her name was Sonomi Daidouji. Now one knew she was there as she wept silently, watching the heart monitor. As Fujitaka and the doctor left the room to talk Sonomi hid in the shadows. Toya remained in the room watching his mother. Sonomi peered in the room watching the boy stroke his dieing mothers cheek. This was too much for a 10 year old boy to bear Sonomi thought to her self.
"I love you Mommy" Toya said softly.
But the woman didn't respond. Sonomi knew the horrible truth. She was completely brain dead, living only by the help of a machine. Sonomi walked in the room mustering up all her courage and wiped the tears from her face.
"It's gonna be all right" Sonomi said trying to comfort the boy.
"No, they told me that heaven is ready for her." Toya replied
"Who told you"? Sonomi wondered.
"The people with the wings that sparkle" Toya said.
Unable to take it any more Sonomi burst into tears and hugged the boy tightly. Fujitaka and the doctor walked back in. Not at all surprised to see Sonomi there, Fujitaka said softly, "We're going to take her off life support." The heart monitor gave its final beeps as the doctor pulled the plug. Fujitaka, Sonomi and the doctor left the room to talk. Toya then saw his mothers spirit. It smiled at him and began to sing.
"Any minute now, my ship is coming in I'll keep checking the horizon I'll stand on the bow, feel the waves come crashing Come crashing down, down, down, on me
And you say, be still my love Open up your heart Let the light shine in But don't you understand I already have a plan I'm waiting for my real life to begin
When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened But in my dreams, I slew the dragon And down this beaten path, and up this cobbled lane I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again And you say, just be here now Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin Let me throw one more dice I know that I can win I'm waiting for my real life to begin
Any minute now, my ship is coming in I'll keep checking the horizon And I'll check my machine, there's sure to be that call It's gonna happen soon, soon, soon It's just that times are lean
And you say, be still my love Open up your heart, let the light shine in Don't you understand? I already have a plan I'm waiting for my real life to begin."
The spirit moved toward Toya now silently in tears and hugged him although passing through him.
"Don't worry, I'll always be with you. But since the others cannot see me, please watch over my Cherry Blossom, my Sakura.
Just as she was about to go Sonomi walked in. Sonomi saw and smiled. She knew her cousin and love, was in peace at last.
