Our First Kiss
Disclaimer: I don't own Percy Jackson.
"We have to get out-"
My words were cut off when the door exploded behind us and the young telekhines came out in a wave. They stumbled over each other trying to figure out which direction to charge in. I think their confusion was what kept us from being overrun by a fleet of telekhines.
"Put your cap on," Percy said. "Get out!"
"What?" I shrieked. Was he crazy? "No! I'm not leaving you!" There was absolutely no way I was leaving Seaweed Brain behind to find the telekhines on his own. We had better odds if we were fighting together, although we would probably still die anyway. That was still probably better than abandoning Percy to battle the telekhines alone.
"I've got a plan. I'll distract them. You can use the metal spider – maybe it'll lead you back to Hephaestus. You have to tell him what's going on," Percy said, like he really did have a plan. I really doubted he had a solid plan to distract them – and get out of the volcano safely.
"But you'll be killed!" I shouted. And I couldn't bear the thought of Percy dying down here in St. Helens. Horrible scenarios of painful deaths flashed through my head …Oh gods.
"I'll be fine," Percy insisted. "Besides, we've got no choice."
I glared at him, and almost felt like punching him, but not really. I was too terrified for his safety. Did he really have seaweed in his brain after all? I hesitated for a moment, but leaned in and kissed him on the lips.
A million emotions churned through me as we kissed. Love. Happiness. Worry. Fear. I was especially scared that Percy would get himself killed, and then I would never see him again.
Percy seemed extremely taken aback when I kissed him and froze up at first. But then he recovered a little - enough to kiss me back. He put his arms around me, and held me close as our lips moved together. I had wanted to kiss him for quite a while now. I wished our kiss could've gone on forever, but we didn't have that much time.
I let go of him, my lips still tingling from our kiss, and backed up. "Be careful, Seaweed Brain," I whispered. I put on my cap and disappeared from sight.
I ran back towards the way we'd come, away from the simmering hot lava lake. I turned my head to get a last look of Percy before I left.
The telekhines were chasing Percy towards the middle of the platform, dangerously close to the lava lake. He was headed straight towards the four telekhines with the weird scythe on the platform.
I closed my eyes as I fled, praying to any of the gods who were listening to watch over Percy and to protect him. If there was a god looking out for heroes doing crazy stunts...
Please Percy….keep yourself safe.
