Vacation is the twenty-first theme of my 100 Themes Challenge~
I decided after a brief struggle to write about Monster Swap for this one.
Monster Swap is my own kind of fandom; a bit like a combination of Digimon, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh! etc. So if you don't get what's going on don't sweat it.
I didn't write it for people to understand and feel free to skip it.
vacation (noun) —leisure time away from work devoted to rest or pleasure
Sunbeam had never heard of this word before. This 'vacation' thing. She'd seen it written on bits of paper Eimee left lying around the lab and her room. But never had her tamer used it.
They had just finished herding a flock of Croopie into some local nest shelters for Roosting Season- Cyberworld hadn't yet strengthened it's security against users who had hateful fetishes for hunting the monsters that habitated the servers. It was mostly those closest to home that were hit (literally) and the whole CPS were out in the fields and streets, lending a hand were they could.
Arron and Davis helped push the gates shut and stood back, admiring the rustling flurry of black and purple feathers as the Croopie happily settled into their new home.
"Nice work, guys!" Eimee, their leader cheered, grinning around at her younger team mates. "Keep it up, there's only a week before vacation afterall!"
The humans cheered and exchanged high fives and fist bumps. The monsters exchanged puzzled glances and slight murmurs.
This 'vacation'… What could it mean?
"Beam?" Sunbeam enquired curiously.
"Vacation?" Eimee blinked. "Didn't we talk about this before?"
"Beam." Never. "Sun Sun Beam."
Eimee smiled. "Yeah, humans do get pretty excited about vacation. It's a special time of year that we cherish."
"Like Christmas?" Nekloud chirped happily, her eyes sparkling at the thought.
Lexica giggled. "Kinda."
Eimee decided to explain. "Vacation is a time of year in the Summer where we all get 6 weeks off school or work. It lets us go away abroad or to the beach or just sleeping all day!"
Sunbeam blinked. "Su…n?" Away? "Sun!"
The other monsters had caught onto this as well and became distinctly distressed. They all clung to their masters desperately, fearfully. Eimee knelt down and picked up her faithful friend calmly.
"Don't worry. Hey, I mean it. We're going away yes." Sunbeam looked alarmed and angry at the same time. "But you guys are coming with us."
A gasp went up around the whole group.
"What do you mean? Carrying around all that head gear and my netbook will become to annoying in France!" Davis protested- yet he still held fast to his bird monster companion.
"I mean, I've developed the tech that allows the monsters to come out of the server, instead of us always coming in here." she grinned. "It'll be risky if they get seen, but this way, they can all enjoy vacation with us!"
