From what Henry could tell, Ariel liked her romance "old school." She liked the cheesy stuff. The whole "give her a dozen roses, eleven real and one fake, and tell her you'll love her until the last one dies" thing. So Henry had bought a lock. The idea was to write their names on the lock, lock it onto a railing or something like that, and throw away the key—preferably into a large body of water so the key couldn't be found. Now, all Henry had to do was find Ariel before Tesla did. He still couldn't believe the guy had taken all the credit for what was now referred to as the Warehouse Incident. It had been Henry's idea, and he hadn't wanted Tesla to come along, but that was passed and now Henry was going to win the princess.
Henry walked through the halls of the Sanctuary, not having found Ariel in her usual places. Suddenly, he heard a bark before the ice husky tried to jump on his back. He laughed as he turned around to let Basel lick his face before the large dog tried to climb over his shoulder to do so. He rubbed the dog's head, his large ears flopping.
"Basel," Ariel said as she approached the males. "Henry already had a bath. You don't need to give him another one."
Henry grinned when the abnormal canine relented in his show of affection and trotted back to Ariel's side. Ariel was in her running clothes, and that explained why Henry hadn't been able to locate her. And he noticed the small hourglass in her hand.
Ariel tilted her head when Henry's grin vanished and she followed his eyes. "Oh! Nik gave it to me. For Valentine's." She held up the hourglass and flipped it over, letting the dark blue sand fall. Then her eyes flicked to Henry's. "You're hiding something."
"No, I'm not."
"Yes, you are. I know you, Henry. Besides, you've got something behind your back." Then she grinned. "Is it a present?"
Henry hesitated before handing her the lock. She examined it and her eyes lit up when she found their names.
"It's a love lock."
"Yeah." He yelped when she suddenly hugged him, her arms tight around him.
"Thank you."
Henry grinned, his arms wrapping around her waist. "You like it?"
"Very much so!"
"Better than the hourglass?"
"Of course! He's always giving them to me. Sure, I love hourglasses, but I only have room for so many. I don't have any love locks! And they're just so," he grinned as she blushed, pausing to find the right words, "so romantic! Locking up our love for each other and promising to be with each other for ever? It's just so—"
"Cheesy."
"Well, yes, but in a good way."
Henry smiled softly. "Happy Valentine's Day, Ariel."
Ariel smiled back and kissed him. "Happy Valentine's Day, Henry."
