A short 07-Ghost oneshot about Teito and his memories of Mikage ^^.
*Takes place after Mikage died, but before Teito decides to become a bishop and meets Hakuren.*

I think… that you were his light as well.

Teito tried to run after the outlined figure, which was fading more and more into the background.

"Wait! Don't leave me!"
He was getting tired, and with one last step, fell to his knees, but the figure made no move to go slower. His heart heavy with grief and loneliness, Teito tried to reach out, as if he can simply grab the fading shadow.
"Wait…" The boy managed to hoarse out.
"Wait… Mikage…Mikage…"
Tears started to fill his eyes, and he made one last effort to call out.

"MIKAGE!"
"Stop screaming, you damn brat!"
Teito awoke with a start, covered with sweat. Frau sat on his bedside.
"Frau? Why are you here?" Teito got up and sat beside the bishop.
"Well, you were screaming 'Mikage' over and over again, so I thought something was wrong." The bishop smirked. "Turns out it was just some random dream"
The contents of the dream began to rush into Teito, and the sadness almost overtook him.

"Mikage… was my best friend. He was the only one who accepted me for who I am."
Teito was aware that Frau was only half listening, but he felt that he had to continue, that he won't be able to stop.
"When all the other students picked on me for being a slave and the chairman's pet, he was the only one who stood up for me. Mikage was the one who taught me the joy of eating real food, and he never left my side. He was the reason I was able to withstand all the years at the academy. Being with him makes me feel warm inside. That's why… it would have been better… if I died instead of him."
Teito hugged his knees and buried his head in his arms.
"Even after being threatened by the Black Hawks, Mikage didn't give me up. Even when his family was in danger, he still stayed loyal to me. Mikage shouldn't be the one dead. When he died, a part of me died as well, and I realized that I should have treasured the time we spent together more."
Teito looked at Frau.

"So if there is a god, I'm sure that it would be Mikage. Mikage… he was my light."
Frau stood up and scratched his head.

"Damn… I'm really not good at dealing with brats." He yawned. "But, I'm sure Mikage isn't the type to give up his life for just anybody. He would probably hate losing you too. You were important to him as well."
Frau patted Teito head, much to Teito's surprise.
"I'm sure, that you were his light as well."
